Singapore is Asia-Pacific's premier financial and technology hub, and one of the highest-compensation markets globally. For senior professionals with 10+ years of experience, Singapore offers exceptional salaries, low personal income tax rates, a strategic position between Asian and Western markets, and a highly international business environment where English is the primary working language.
Singapore has adopted hybrid-first as the dominant model, with many companies offering 2 to 3 days of remote work. Fully remote roles are less common than in the US or UK but are growing, particularly in technology, financial services, and consulting. Singapore serves as the Asia-Pacific headquarters for many global companies, creating senior roles that oversee distributed regional teams. The government's Smart Nation initiative has invested heavily in digital infrastructure.
Compensation is a major draw: Singapore has some of the highest salaries in Asia, combined with a personal income tax rate capped at 22% (effective rates are often lower). There are no capital gains taxes. Senior software engineers earn SGD 120,000 to SGD 200,000+. Financial services roles are even higher. The cost of living is high (comparable to London or New York), particularly for housing. The Employment Pass (EP) for foreign professionals has been tightened with the COMPASS framework, requiring companies to demonstrate that foreign hires complement the local workforce.
The fully remote model is less established in Singapore than in Western markets. Many companies expect physical presence in the office at least part-time. Senior professionals targeting fully remote roles should be prepared for a smaller pool of opportunities. Housing costs are the primary financial concern: rental for a family-sized apartment in central Singapore can exceed SGD 5,000 to SGD 10,000 per month. The EP approval process has become more competitive under COMPASS, and companies must justify foreign hires more rigorously than before.
