Position Summary

SMX Services & Consulting, Inc. is seeking a Senior Software Developer – E-CLAS Modernization to support modernization of IRS legacy application interfaces and mainframe-connected services.

The successful candidate will analyze existing Java-based interfaces and legacy integration patterns and help transform them into modern Spring Boot microservices and APIs while preserving existing business functionality and downstream compatibility.

Key Responsibilities

• Analyze existing E-CLAS interfaces and application behavior.

• Document service and consumer dependencies.

• Develop Spring Boot microservices.

• Develop and modernize REST and SOAP interfaces.

• Convert legacy functionality into reusable API-based services.

• Develop OpenAPI specifications.

• Perform JSON/XML/schema mapping.

• Analyze backward compatibility.

• Identify downstream consumer impacts.

• Support mainframe-connected modernization.

• Correct software defects.

• Conduct developer validation.

• Support application security remediation.

• Prepare release-ready artifacts.

• Produce modernization documentation.

• Support implementation and deployment activities.

• Preserve existing functionality throughout modernization.

Location Requirement

The position is primarily remote within the United States. The selected candidate must be capable of supporting the IRS Government site at 1111 Constitution Avenue NW, Washington, DC 20224 when required.

Citizenship and Security

MUST BE U.S. CITIZEN.

Candidate must be able to satisfy applicable IRS suitability, background investigation, PIV/SmartID, security training, system-access, and protected-information handling requirements.
