Position Summary

SMX Services & Consulting, Inc. is seeking a Senior Software Developer / Operations Engineer – CIS Operations & Maintenance to support mission-critical IRS enterprise middleware and Common Integration Services.

The successful candidate will combine software-development capabilities with enterprise middleware production-support expertise.

This position requires experience troubleshooting and maintaining enterprise integration services, with a strong preference for hands-on IBM webMethods Integration Server experience.

The position includes operational support for high-volume production applications and may require participation in 24x7 response activities during critical IRS processing periods.

Required Qualifications

• Minimum 5 years of relevant middleware development and production-support experience.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide application-level production support for Common Integration Services.

• Troubleshoot IBM webMethods-based services.

• Troubleshoot Java enterprise integration services.

• Monitor application and middleware health.

• Resolve REST and SOAP service issues.

• Resolve XML, XSD, and JSON mapping issues.

• Analyze application performance and errors.

• Use AppDynamics and ELK/Elastic Stack for troubleshooting.

• Support ServiceNow incident-management processes.

• Perform application-level incident triage.

• Develop root-cause-analysis technical inputs.

• Support release validation.

• Support failover and fallback activities.

• Troubleshoot certificate and credential dependencies.

• Troubleshoot consumer integration issues.

• Correct application defects.

• Maintain operational runbooks.

• Maintain system and interface documentation.

• Support high-volume enterprise integration environments.

• Support mission-critical IRS operational periods.

• Participate in 24x7 operational-response coverage when required.

Priority Experience

Hands-on IBM webMethods production-support experience is a high-priority recruiting requirement.

Strong candidates should demonstrate experience with enterprise middleware supporting high transaction volumes and mission-critical applications.

Location Requirement

The position is primarily remote within the United States. The selected candidate must be capable of supporting the IRS Government site at 1111 Constitution Avenue NW, Washington, DC 20224 when required.

On-site activities may be required for production support, deployments, troubleshooting, technical meetings, releases, or knowledge transfer.

24x7 Operational Requirement

The candidate must be able to participate in operational-response coverage. After-hours or weekend support may be required to support critical IRS production systems and processing periods.

Citizenship and Security

Candidate must be able to satisfy applicable IRS suitability, background investigation, identity credentialing, security training, Government system-access, and protected-information handling requirements.

No Secret or Top Secret clearance requirement has been identified.

Compensation

Candidate Pay Range: $72.29–$75.12/hour

Final compensation depends on experience, qualifications, employment classification, and final SMX approval.

Position is contingent upon contract award.
