SMX Services & Consulting, Inc. is seeking a Senior Software Developer / Infrastructure Currency Engineer to support application-level technical currency for the IRS Common API Services environment.
The successful candidate will perform software-engineering modifications necessary to keep Java, Spring Boot, middleware, OpenShift, and Linux-hosted applications current, secure, compatible, and supportable.
This role focuses on application-level technical currency, including Java/JDK upgrades, runtime upgrades, software-library and dependency remediation, certificate-related changes, interface and schema updates, and compatibility with OpenShift and RHEL/Linux environments.
Minimum 5 years of relevant application/software engineering experience.

This is an application-engineering role, not a dedicated infrastructure-administrator position.
Government personnel retain applicable responsibilities for infrastructure administration, cybersecurity administration, database administration, platform administration, CI/CD execution, formal testing, and production approval.
The position is primarily remote within the United States.

Occasional on-site support may be required for technical-currency activities, deployments, troubleshooting, technical meetings, implementation events, or knowledge transfer.
Candidate must be able to satisfy applicable IRS suitability, background investigation, PIV/SmartID, security training, Government system-access, and protected-information handling requirements.
No Secret or Top Secret clearance requirement has been identified.
Candidate Pay Range: $72.29–$75.12/hour
Final compensation depends on experience, technical qualifications, employment classification, and final SMX approval.
