Spain passed a remote work law (Ley de Trabajo a Distancia) in 2021, establishing clear rights and obligations for both employers and employees working remotely. The Beckham Law offers a flat 24% tax rate for qualifying new residents for the first 6 years, which is extremely valuable for high-earning remote professionals. Not all autonomous communities have the same tax rates: Madrid has lower regional taxes than Catalonia or the Basque Country. Additionally, Spain's bureaucracy for administrative processes (empadronamiento, NIE, social security registration) is notoriously slow, so plan for longer setup times.
