Job description

Fractional MLRO (6–8 Hours per Week) – FinTech / Remote

PLEASE READ THE FULL JOB DESCRIPTION BEFORE APPLYING

Location: Remote – UK regulatory experience required
Working Pattern: Fractional – approximately 6–8 hours per week
Environment: Early-Stage FinTech

About the Opportunity

Our client is an early-stage FinTech preparing for its next phase of product, commercial and regulatory development.

As part of building its senior leadership and governance capability, the company is seeking an experienced Fractional Money Laundering Reporting Officer (MLRO).

The successful candidate will help establish the financial-crime framework and regulatory foundations required as the organisation develops.

This is not an opportunity to administer a mature compliance programme. You will be helping to build the framework from an early stage.

Application – Mandatory Qualifying Questions

Please submit your CV together with a cover letter answering each of the following:

  1. Have you previously operated as an MLRO, Deputy MLRO or equivalent senior financial-crime leader? Please describe the role and your personal accountability.
  2. What direct experience do you have within UK FCA-regulated financial services?
  3. What direct experience do you have engaging with the FCA or another relevant financial-services regulator?
  4. Please provide an example of an AML/CTF or wider financial-crime framework that you personally built, materially developed or led.
  5. What experience do you have within FinTech, payments, trade finance, lending, banking, cross-border finance or another relevant environment?
  6. Have you supported a regulatory authorisation/application, material regulatory change or early-stage regulated business? Please explain your involvement.
  7. This opportunity requires approximately 6–8 hours per week. Can you consistently commit to this alongside your other professional commitments?

Every question is mandatory. Applications that omit any of the mandatory qualifying questions will be automatically disqualified and will not be considered further.

What You'll Be Doing

You will provide senior financial-crime and regulatory leadership, including:

  • Developing the company's AML/CTF and financial-crime framework
  • Advising senior leadership on financial-crime risk
  • Establishing appropriate policies, controls and governance
  • Advising on customer/business due diligence
  • Supporting regulatory strategy
  • Working with external legal and regulatory advisers
  • Advising on financial-crime considerations within products and transaction flows
  • Supporting risk assessments, monitoring and escalation frameworks
  • Establishing appropriate senior/Board reporting
  • Building compliance infrastructure capable of scaling with the business

What We're Looking For

This role requires genuine senior financial-crime experience, rather than general compliance experience.

Particularly valuable will be:

  • MLRO/Deputy MLRO experience
  • FCA-regulated financial-services experience
  • Direct regulatory engagement
  • AML/CTF framework-building
  • FinTech/payments/banking experience
  • Regulatory authorisation experience
  • Cross-border financial-services exposure

Engagement Structure

This is a fractional engagement requiring approximately 6–8 hours per week.

It is designed for an experienced regulatory professional comfortable participating in the development of an early-stage business alongside other compatible commitments, subject to appropriate conflicts and regulatory considerations.

Full details of the participation structure will be discussed with candidates progressing through the process.
