About Us

Streamline Media Group is a 25-year creative development studio specializing in full video game development, co-development, publishing, and interactive digital asset production. We have shipped titles across every major platform for clients, including Sony, Microsoft, and global AAA publishers.

Description

As a Lead Character Artist, you will report to the Art or Creative Director and be responsible for managing and coordinating art-related project plans, while mentoring teams of artists to help them grow from good to great.

This role is fully remote and offered on a freelance/contract basis, with the possibility of conversion to a full-time position based on performance.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Work with the Creative Director, Producer, and/or Art Director to establish and maintain the visual look of a project.
  • Develop integrated project plans and implementation schedules, and oversee the assigning and tracking of art assets.
  • Communicate regularly with the Creative Director, Producer, and/or Art Director on project milestones and initiatives, obtaining guidance and approval when needed.
  • Create briefs and documentation for asset creation and training.
  • Prepare and plan content submission packages for clients, ensuring content is complete, organized, and quality-checked ahead of review.
  • Interact with artists on the client/partner side to ensure expectations are met and understood.
  • Diagnose client/partner technology and processes, and train artists in using them where required.
  • Identify and recommend growth areas for each artist to the Art Director.
  • Participate in defining tools and art production pipelines, understanding the advantages and limitations of technology to maximize performance.
  • Support team well-being by monitoring morale and flagging potential risks to the Art Director.

Requirements

Full proficiency in the following software and tools:

  • 3ds Max / Maya
  • Substance Painter
  • ZBrush
  • Photoshop
  • PBR workflow

Working knowledge of:

  • Blender

Intermediate to high proficiency in:

  • Unreal Engine character set-up
  • Unreal Engine rendering (lighting, rendering)

Highly proficient in at least one of the following, and intermediate in the rest:

  • Human anatomy
  • Creature anatomy
  • Hard-surface modeling
  • Cloth sculpting or simulation

Also required:

  • Passion for game development.
  • Proficiency in game engine technologies such as Unreal, with asset integration.
  • Experience with the game art asset pipeline: highpoly and efficient game-ready lowpoly modeling, texturing, and baking.
  • Strong knowledge of technical game art theory (game design, texel density, polycount, optimization, etc.) and traditional art theory (form, shape, proportion, color, etc.).
  • A keen eye for light, shade, color, and detail in creating texture maps across material types.

Beneficial Skills

  • Experience with scripting languages.
  • Ability to guide and train junior artists.
  • Experience using Substance Designer.
  • Skill in one or more related disciplines — concepting, animation, visual effects, or technical art.
