About Us

Description

The Lead Environment Artist is part of the core management team, responsible for managing and coordinating projects while mentoring teams of artists to help them grow from good to great. You will report to the Head of Production and the General Manager.

This role is fully remote and offered on a freelance/contract basis, with the possibility of conversion to a full-time position based on performance.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Work with the Senior Lead/Art Director and external clients to establish and maintain the visual look of production.
  • Interact with clients/partners to establish short- and long-term artistic goals, objectives, and operating procedures for a project.
  • Advise Project Managers in developing and implementing schedules, and oversee the assigning and tracking of art assets.
  • Communicate regularly with artists and Project Managers — and clients where required — on project milestones and initiatives, obtaining guidance and approval when needed, and staying aware of client expectations for upcoming content drops or rejected assets.
  • Prepare and plan content submission packages for clients, ensuring content is complete, organized, quality-checked, and ready for client review on time.
  • Create and maintain briefs and documentation for asset creation and training.
  • Diagnose client/partner technology and processes, and train artists in using them where required.
  • Monitor and evaluate production efficiency, adjusting tools and art production pipelines and developing strategies to maximize performance.
  • Identify and recommend areas of artistic growth for each artist to the Senior Lead/Art Director.
  • Support HR-related processes such as monitoring team well-being, identifying potential risks, and assisting with recruitment initiatives.
  • Work with the core management team to establish and maintain team vision, mission, and values, including periodic reviews to keep these aligned with overall company goals.

Requirements

Expert in at least three of the following areas of artistic production, using industry-standard tools such as 3ds Max/Maya/Blender, Substance Painter and Designer/Quixel Mixer, and ZBrush:

  • Environmental modelling and planning
  • Vehicle modelling
  • Texturing
  • Environment level design/placement
  • Organic sculpting

Also required:

  • Proficient with major game engines such as Unreal Engine 4, Unity, etc.
  • Exceptional understanding of form, shape, structure, and silhouette in modeling, with strong knowledge of technical game art theory.
  • Strong artistic ability to visualize entire levels and detail with minimal concept art and direction.
  • Strong technical ability to manage assets within memory, design, and frame rate limitations.
  • Keen eye for light, shade, color, and detail in creating texture maps across material types, with a full understanding of modern PBR texture workflow.
  • Strong knowledge of modular planning for large assets/environments, including planning and creating modular pieces for level variation, terrain, and placement.
  • Self-motivated, requiring minimal direction, with the ability to carry a level's vision through to completion while respecting gameplay and design needs.

Streamline Values: Responsibility, accountability, discipline, teamwork, clear communication, continuous improvement, and learning.
