Position Overview
We are looking for a hands-on Senior DevOps Engineer with strong experience building and improving software deployment and release processes in Linux environments. This role is best suited for someone who understands the full software delivery lifecycle — not just how to maintain an existing pipeline. You should be comfortable designing deployment solutions, working through complex technical problems independently, and understanding how decisions made within a pipeline or deployment process impact the broader application environment.
The immediate focus will be on Linux virtual machine deployments, release automation, application packaging, and CI/CD. Longer term, the environment is expected to continue evolving toward greater use of containerization.
What You'll Be Doing
- Design, build, and maintain CI/CD pipelines using Azure DevOps and YAML.
- Develop reusable pipeline templates and deployment processes that can support multiple applications and environments.
- Create and maintain Ansible playbooks, roles, inventories, and automation workflows.
- Build and support automated application deployments into Linux virtual machine environments.
- Package and deploy applications using Debian-based deployment methods.
- Support the build, packaging, versioning, release, and deployment of .NET applications and services.
- Develop deployment solutions appropriate to different .NET frameworks and application architectures.
- Help establish consistent release, versioning, and deployment practices across technical teams.
- Support deployments across environments with varying levels of connectivity, including restricted or disconnected environments.
- Troubleshoot CI/CD pipelines, Linux systems, application builds, package deployments, configuration issues, and release failures.
- Work closely with software engineering, infrastructure, QA, database, and other technical teams to improve the overall deployment process.
- Research technical issues through product documentation and other authoritative resources and independently develop solutions.
- Contribute to the organization's longer-term transition toward containerized and orchestrated application deployments.
Required Experience
- 5+ years of DevOps, Release Engineering, Deployment Engineering, Infrastructure Automation, or comparable experience.
- Advanced hands-on experience with Ansible, including creating and maintaining playbooks and roles.
- Strong experience working within Linux environments.
- Direct experience building and/or deploying Debian packages to Linux virtual machines.
- Strong experience designing and developing Azure DevOps YAML pipelines.
- Experience creating reusable YAML templates and structured CI/CD pipeline frameworks.
- Strong understanding of software versioning, packaging, build processes, release management, and deployment patterns.
- Experience supporting the build and deployment lifecycle of .NET applications.
- Ability to independently troubleshoot complex deployment and pipeline problems.
- Strong understanding of how application builds, infrastructure, configuration, pipelines, and deployment processes work together as a complete system.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to document technical designs and explain technical decisions.
Preferred Experience
- Experience with Docker or other container technologies.
- Kubernetes, orchestration, or container platform experience.
- Experience supporting both traditional VM-based and containerized application environments.
- Infrastructure as Code experience using tools such as Terraform or similar technologies.
- Experience deploying applications into cloud, on-premises, hybrid, or restricted-connectivity environments.
- Scripting experience using Bash, PowerShell, Python, or similar languages.
- Experience with SQL Server deployment automation.
