Job description

The American Cancer Society Cancer Action Network (ACS CAN) is the nation's leading cancer advocacy organization. Together with our charitable partner, the American Cancer Society, we work in Congress, state legislatures and local jurisdictions to support evidence-based policy and legislative solutions designed to eliminate cancer as a major health problem.

The State & Local Campaigns Manager serves as the campaign point of contact for state and local field team and resource support for the execution of comprehensive state and local public issue campaigns for assigned nationwide priority campaign states in partnership with other state and local team members, regional, national and state teams. The Campaigns Manager is able to operate with autonomy to guide state campaigns with strategic decision-making, campaign planning, and resource creation while following priority guidelines set by senior leaders. The successful Campaigns Manager will interface directly with state teams as well as track activities and outcomes of key campaigns to communicate across different teams and levels of the organization.

***This is a fully remote position that can be home-based anywhere within the United States. Prior experience in advocacy campaign management is highly preferred. Experience and proficient skills using Canva, infographics for story-telling is helpful.***

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Provides direction and support to ACS CAN field staff to ensure education and issue campaign success through strategic issue and campaign best practice guidance and consultation to ACS CAN field staff daily and to Society staff as appropriate on legislative, regulatory and ballot campaigns in assigned states. 30%

  • Creates and manages campaign strategies to forward state/local legislative and regulatory strategy for assigned campaign issue portfolio in partnership with other team members, other ACS CAN teams, external partners (as appropriate) for use at the state/local level. 20%

  • Analyzes legislative proposals related to assigned portfolio issues and provides oral and written analysis, guidance and direction, training and support to ACS CAN field staff, and other relevant ACS CAN and Society staff. 15%

  • Authors monthly program reports/updates to keep stakeholders and funders informed of progress and supports programmatic work of contractors and budgets as assigned. 15%

  • Represents ACS CAN with regional, state and local external partners and stakeholders, funders, etc. to establish, grow and manage relationships to ensure campaign and grant deliverables are met and new and diverse partnerships in support of the work are established. 10%

  • Collaborates closely with other ACS CAN national teams including policy, media, grassroots and federal to ensure consistency in position and messaging. 10%

EXPERIENCE/QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Minimum Degree Required: Bachelor's Degree

  • Preferred Degree: Bachelor's Degree

  • Years of experience: 5+

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITY:

  • Experience executing campaign/legislative campaign plans.

  • Experience working with diverse coalitions.

  • Ability to multi-task and demonstrated flexibility in approach.

  • Ability to perform basic analysis and interpret legislative, statutory and regulatory text

  • Strong interpersonal skills.

  • Strong communication (oral and written) skills.

  • Demonstrated skills in technology platforms.

TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Ability to travel (by car and/or airplane) as needed.

  • Ability to complete work deliverables while traveling.

The starting rate is $73,000 to $83,000 annual. The final candidate's relevant experience/skills will be considered before an offer is extended. Actual starting pay will vary based on non-discriminatory factors including, but not limited to, geographic location, experience, skills, specialty, and education.
