Digital Health & Health Tech

agilon health is transforming health care for seniors by empowering primary-care physicians to focus on the entire health of their patients. Through our platform and partnership model, agilon health is leading the nation in creating the system we need – one built on the value of care, not the volume of fees. We honor the independence of local physicians and serve as their long-term partner so they can be the physicians they trained to be. agilon is built for physicians by physicians, as the patient-physician relationship is the cornerstone of care. We allow primary care physicians to take the long view of their relationships with patients, and to be confident in the long-term financial viability of their own practices. We do this through a Total Care Model that maintains the independence of physicians; unites them in a network of like-minded leaders; and integrates all of the components of a global risk business model into a single platform.

Job Title:

Regional Senior Director, Operations

Job Description:

This position is not eligible for current or future sponsorship or employer-supported work authorization by agilon health. Applicants must be able to accept and maintain employment with agilon health in the United States for the full duration of their employment without sponsorship or work authorization support.

The Regional Senior Director, Operations is a senior regional executive accountable for developing and executing the operating strategy that drives performance across multiple markets. This role operates as the primary operational partner to the Regional Market President — translating vision and priorities into disciplined, market-level execution.

The Senior Director is responsible for the design and governance of the regional operating model, multi-year performance roadmaps, and the data and technology support that enables sustained improvement across 4+ markets. In the physician partner context, this role functions as an operational resource and performance enabler — supporting the execution of physician partnership commitments established by the Regional Market President.

As a member of the Regional Leadership Team, the Senior Director ensures the region is operationally positioned to deliver sustainable growth, high-quality care and margin expansion at scale.

Essential Job Functions

Multi-Market Strategy Development & Execution – 45%

  • Develop and own the regional operating cadence for key levers in the business (e.g. Risk Adjustment, Clinical Pathways, Quality/STARs, and Cost of Care initiatives), ensuring coherence across 4+ markets and alignment to company objectives.
  • Translate the strategic priorities into market-level operating plans with defined KPIs, multi-year roadmaps, and governance frameworks that enable consistent execution.
  • Drive cross-market strategy alignment and large-scale transformation initiatives, positioning the region for growth through new market launches, AI initiatives, payer expansions, and regulatory change.
  • Serve as a point of executive escalation for performance, compliance, and operational risk — owning resolution at the regional level to support the markets.

Physician Partner Operational Support – 25%

The Senior Director’s role is to ensure that operational commitments and performance expectations are translated into actionable plans and support market level execution.

  • Partner with market-level operational and clinical leadership to ensure partnership performance goals — including but not limited to risk adjustment accuracy, clinical pathway execution, Quality/STAR improvement, and cost of care improvement — are embedded into the regional operating plan and actively tracked.
  • Serve as the operational point of escalation for market leaders and medical directors when physician partner performance barriers arise, mobilizing resources, data, and cross-functional expertise to resolve issues and keep execution on track.
  • Aid physician partners in understanding and navigating agilon’s operational frameworks, tools, and programs — providing structured guidance that enables them to execute effectively within the value-based care model.
  • Collaborate with the Regional Market President to align the operating model and resource allocation reflect physician partner priorities and market-specific needs.
  • Provide the Regional Market President with clear, data-driven performance visibility into physician partner outcomes, enabling informed strategic decisions and relationship management at the executive level.

Data, Technology & Strategic Enablement – 20%

  • Oversee the regional data and technology strategy in partnership with Data & Analytics and IT/Engineering, ensuring digital enablement advances performance priorities.
  • Collaborate in setting strategic business requirements for EMR/claims integrations, automation, analytics, and reporting tools — ensuring regional data capabilities are fit-for-purpose and scalable.
  • Champion a data-driven operating culture across markets, enabling leadership teams to use insights to guide strategy, identify risk, and accelerate improvement.
  • Embrace innovation and use of AI to solve business problems. Partner with platform and regional teams to drive development of AI integration across the markets.

Organizational Effectiveness & Capacity Strategy – 10%

  • In collaboration with the Regional Market President, support capacity planning, organizational design and process optimization, and talent development to support multi-market execution and growth.
  • Ensure the regional organization is structured and staffed to execute at scale, with the capability and bench strength to sustain long-term performance.
