Description

LOCATION:  This is a fully remote position; however, candidates must reside in Michigan. Due to the nature of the role, occasional in-office attendance is required for special events and team meetings. To support these responsibilities, candidates must live within a one-hour driving distance of our corporate office in downtown Royal Oak, Michigan.  


POSITION SUMMARY 

The Benefits & Payroll Administrator oversees payroll processing and benefits administration, ensuring compliance with laws and regulations. This role supports a high-performance culture by enhancing the team member experience and driving Human Resources initiatives. This role is integral to maintaining efficient HR operations and fostering a supportive work environment. 


DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES 

Payroll 

  • Payroll Management: overseeing the complete payroll process, including wages, bonuses, garnishments, tax payments, and deductions. 
  • Perform regular payroll audits and collaborate with Accounting team on tax management and year-end payroll activities. 
  • Work with Accounting to track payroll costs against the budget and manage financial reporting for payroll and benefits changes. 
  • Ensure the accuracy and timeliness of payroll transactions through regular system reviews. 

Benefits Administration and Coordination  

  • Develop and implement cost-effective and attractive benefit strategies for team members. 
  • Act as the main point of contact for benefits-related inquiries, managing enrollment and communication. 
  • Bring a genuine passion for benefits administration, team member education, and staying current on industry standards, best practices, and emerging trends. 
  • Administer the 401(k) plan, ensuring compliance, managing enrollments, and providing team member education. 
  • Manage relationships with service providers and brokers to ensure effective benefits utilization and stay informed on industry best practices and new technologies. 

Compliance 

  • Ensure adherence to federal, state, and local employment laws, including benefits and payroll regulations. 
  • Lead compliance initiatives for new regulations, audits, and reporting requirements. 
  • Prepare and submit regulatory compliance data, including EEO reports and ACA documentation. 
  • Create and maintain policies, forms, and SOPs for payroll and benefits functions. 
  • Develop training materials and communications related to all respective areas. 

SKILLS & ABILITIES

  • Deep understanding of federal and state payroll, 401k, benefit, employment laws and practices.

  • Strong computer skills with a quick aptitude for learning new technologies; experience with Paylocity preferred. 

QUALIFICATIONS 

  • Bachelor’s degree in human resources/or related experience. 
  • 3-5 years of progressive Human Resources experience with a focus on payroll, benefits, 401K administration, and Human Resources Compliance.  
  • Experience processing multi-state payroll 

TRAVEL 

Position may require travel as needed to attend company events and/or support team initiatives.
