The primary pitfall is assuming the 30% ruling applies automatically. Eligibility requires specific conditions including minimum salary thresholds and being recruited from abroad. Senior professionals already residing in the Netherlands may not qualify. Additionally, Dutch companies often advertise salaries as gross annual figures without specifying holiday allowance (vakantiegeld), which is an additional 8% paid in May.
