Senior Data Engineer

Job Overview / Purpose Statement

The Senior Data Engineer owns company data architecture and manages scalable Databricks pipelines using medallion architecture and Delta Lake. This role is responsible for driving advanced data solutions, optimizing pipeline costs, prioritizing feature deployments, owning the semantic layer, and mentoring the Junior Data Engineer. Working across teams, the Senior Data Engineer ensures high performance, data reliability, and scalable infrastructure to meet organizational growth goals. 

• Manage, monitor, and scale production data pipelines and medallion architecture (Bronze, Silver, Gold) hosted on Databricks using Delta Lake or Iceberg.
  
• Continuously review and optimize pipeline infrastructure to reduce operational and compute costs.
  

• Act as the primary owner of company data, ensuring governance, accuracy, and high availability.
  
• Design scalable dimensional models and star schemas for downstream analytics and multi-CRM data marts.
  
• Act as the sole owner and architect of the enterprise semantic layer, governing business metrics and data definitions for reporting.
  

• Prioritize new data features, enhancements, and pipeline deployments aligned with business priorities.
  

• Support, guide, and mentor the Junior Data Engineer to ensure technical growth and quality execution.
  
• Collaborate with cross-functional stakeholders to align data engineering deliverables with business objectives.
  

Requirements

• Databricks Certified Associate or Professional Data Engineer certification (MANDATORY).
  
• Minimum of 2 years of professional experience in similar data engineering roles.
  
• Demonstrated experience in star schema design, dimensional modeling, and semantic layer architecture.
  
• Proficiency with cloud data lakehouse table formats (Delta Lake or Apache Iceberg) and cloud environments (BigQuery/GCP or Databricks).
  
• Strong analytical mindset with a focus on problem-solving, optimization, and cost reduction.
  
• Proficiency in SQL, Python, and Databricks platform tooling.
  

• Experience mentoring or leading junior technical team members.
  
• Proven track record of optimizing Databricks resource utilization and cloud costs.
