Job description

We are seeking an experienced Family Law Paralegal with strong knowledge of New Jersey Family Law to provide legal and case-management support to attorneys handling family law matters.

The ideal candidate will have at least two years of experience working as a Family Law Paralegal and strong hands-on experience drafting New Jersey Family Law pleadings, motions, certifications, discovery, correspondence, and other legal documents. This role requires strong knowledge of New Jersey Family Court procedures, excellent legal research and writing skills, and the ability to manage multiple cases, deadlines, and priorities with minimal supervision.

All legal work must be performed under the supervision and direction of the responsible attorney.

Responsibilities

  • Draft pleadings, motions, certifications, discovery, correspondence, and other Family Law documents under attorney supervision.

  • Prepare and organize documents for divorce, custody, child support, alimony, parenting time, and related New Jersey Family Law matters.

  • Assist attorneys with case preparation, discovery, trial preparation, and court filings.

  • Review and organize client information, financial records, and supporting documentation.

  • Conduct legal research and assist with identifying applicable New Jersey statutes, court rules, and case law.

  • Maintain accurate case files, deadlines, calendars, and case-management systems.

  • Coordinate with attorneys, clients, courts, and opposing counsel as directed.

  • Review legal documents for accuracy, completeness, formatting, and consistency.

  • Assist with the organization and preparation of discovery materials and responses.

  • Track case deadlines, court dates, filing requirements, and other important case milestones.

  • Organize and maintain electronic case files and supporting documentation.

  • Assist attorneys in preparing materials for hearings, conferences, mediations, and trials.

  • Communicate case-related information and follow-up items to attorneys and relevant parties as directed.

  • Maintain strict confidentiality when handling sensitive client information and family law matters.

  • Perform other paralegal and case-support duties as assigned by the responsible attorney.

Requirements

  • 2+ years of experience as a Family Law Paralegal.

  • Strong experience drafting New Jersey Family Law pleadings and legal documents.

  • Knowledge of New Jersey Family Court procedures, rules, and filing requirements.

  • Experience supporting matters involving divorce, custody, child support, alimony, parenting time, and related Family Law issues.

  • Strong legal research and writing skills.

  • Ability to identify and research applicable New Jersey statutes, court rules, and case law.

  • Excellent proofreading and document-review skills.

  • Strong organizational and time-management skills.

  • Ability to manage multiple cases, deadlines, and priorities with minimal supervision.

  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy.

  • Ability to handle confidential and sensitive information professionally.

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.

  • Ability to work independently while following attorney instructions and established procedures.

  • Experience with legal case-management software is preferred.

  • Paralegal certification or relevant legal education is a plus.
