BASIC FUNCTION

The Protein Analyst will work closely with other members of the Terrain function across American AgCredit, Farm Credit Services of America, Ag Country, Capital Farm Credit, and Frontier Farm Credit (the Associations) to support thought leadership to customers, prospective customers, and association leadership. Terrain is a team of agricultural economists and analysts who provide expert insights and confident forecasting to the customers of Terrain’s partner Associations. Terrain analysts are inspired by Farm Credit’s mission to support U.S. agriculture and rural communities today and tomorrow.

This role centers on the protein industry and related markets.  The Protein Analyst will support the industry by assisting in generating original, data-driven research and supporting engagement with customers at industry events and through participation in industry groups. The Protein Analyst assists with data collection, analysis, and research related to beef markets and adjacent sectors, supporting senior analysts in developing insights on market conditions, risks, and opportunities that are used in customer‑facing and internal research and communications.

This position requires an understanding of agricultural markets and an interest in developing analytical skills through research, data analysis, and forecasting. The ideal candidate is motivated to learn how beef, protein, field crop, input, and value chains interact and can assist senior analysts in organizing information and contributing analysis that supports customer communication and internal decision‑making.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES

  • Conducts collaborative research alongside the Senior Analysts focused on beef and adjacent protein and feed markets.
  • Helps develop, analyze, write and review research in the beef sector, with a strong emphasis on external relevance and impact.
  • Assists in the production of strategic, data‑driven research publications, outlooks, and presentations for customers and prospective customers.
  • Will support senior analysts in developing material for conference engagements and speaking events.
  • Assists in the production of select internal‑facing reports and analyses to inform association leadership and internal stakeholders.
  • Will work with Senior Terrain Analysts to develop skill sets in analysis, writing, speaking, and customer engagement.
  • Works collaboratively with other Terrain analysts and supports projects outside of primary sector coverage when appropriate.
  • Supports and contributes input to analysts and leadership on the research agenda and key external messages.
  • Supports business growth by developing innovative, research‑backed perspectives on market conditions and emerging trends.

TYPICAL EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • Master’s degree in Economics, Agricultural Economics, Finance, Business, or a related field
    OR
  • Bachelor’s degree in Economics, Agricultural Economics, Finance, Business, or a related field and more than 3-5 years of relevant professional experience in agricultural research, analysis, or a closely related field.

In addition:

  • Knowledge of U.S. agriculture, with a desire to deepen their understand of the beef value chain.
  • Basic knowledge of, and willingness to learn more about, risk management practices in the livestock industry.
  • Training or experience with agricultural data sets, databases, and financial analysis.
  • Ability to apply statistical, econometric, and analytical methods to real‑world market questions.
  • Written and verbal communication skills, with the willingness to learn how to translate analysis into clear, compelling insights for external audiences.
  • Ability to communicate with coworkers and stakeholders.

ESSENTIAL JOB REQUIREMENTS

  • Ability to perform basic office tasks and work in a typical office setting.
  • Ability to sit for extended periods and work at a computer for prolonged durations.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, work independently, and collaborate within a team environment.
  • Some lifting and moving of items up to 25 pounds may be required.
  • Work during established business hours, with occasional evening and/or weekend work as needed.
  • Travel required to support customer engagement.
FULL-TIME REMOTE: These roles and job functions can be done remotely, while maintaining our strong commitment to customer service and our business goals. Employees are welcome to come to an office to work if needed, and some travel for team meetings will be required.

PAY RANGE:

Minimum $110,237.60 - Max $187,403.92 Annual

This range is reflective of the national salary average for this position and will be adjusted using geographic variance for physical location of the hired candidate. American AgCredit may compensate outside of the salary range for bona fide reasons not related to membership in a protected class.

  • Reflected is the national base pay range and title offered for this job at the current level.

  • Compensation, title, and job level may be adjusted based on candidate qualifications including but not limited to achievements, skills, experience, or work location.

  • Salary offered, within the applicable range, is one component of the total rewards package offered to candidates.
