Job description

We are sharing a specialised part-time consulting opportunity for experienced U.S.-qualified lawyers with strong backgrounds in legal document review, commercial contracts, quality control, and high-volume legal verification work.

This role focuses on creating practical review rubrics and performing quality control across a broad range of processed legal documents. The work is centred on review and verification rather than legal drafting or advisory services, with particular emphasis on accuracy, consistency, sensitive-information handling, and structured defect identification.

Key Responsibilities

Legal Document Review

  • Review processed legal documents against established quality-control criteria
  • Verify that identifying, confidential, and sensitive elements have been handled correctly
  • Identify omissions, inconsistencies, or processing defects
  • Apply review standards consistently across large document volumes
  • Escalate ambiguous or unusual cases for further adjudication

Commercial & Corporate Documents

  • Review commercial contracts and business agreements
  • Assess corporate records and organisational documentation
  • Evaluate financing and debt instruments
  • Review insurance policies and related commercial materials
  • Apply broad commercial legal judgement across varied document types

Employment, IP & Technology

  • Review employment and HR documentation
  • Assess intellectual property and technology agreements
  • Identify relevant sensitive or identifying information within employment and technology-related records
  • Apply consistent review standards across different document structures
  • Flag defects according to established categories

Regulatory & Litigation Materials

  • Review regulatory filings and compliance-related documents
  • Assess litigation files and associated legal records
  • Review documents for completeness and appropriate processing
  • Identify issues requiring escalation or additional judgement
  • Maintain precision across complex legal materials

Real Estate & Tax Documentation

  • Review real estate agreements and property-related legal documents
  • Assess tax filings and related records
  • Apply established QC protocols across specialised document categories
  • Identify sensitive or identifying elements requiring particular attention
  • Maintain consistency despite variation in document format and subject matter

Rubric Development

  • Create clear rubrics for evaluating legal documents
  • Translate legal review requirements into criteria that can be understood and applied by non-lawyers
  • Define practical defect categories and review standards
  • Refine rubrics based on recurring issues or ambiguous cases
  • Help improve consistency across high-volume document-review workflows

Quality Control & Defect Classification

  • Flag and categorise defects identified during document review
  • Distinguish substantive processing issues from minor inconsistencies
  • Follow written QC protocols closely
  • Maintain high levels of accuracy and consistency across repeated review tasks
  • Contribute improvements to existing review procedures where appropriate

Ideal Profile

  • U.S.-based qualified lawyer
  • 3+ years of post-qualification legal experience
  • Background as an in-house lawyer, commercial counsel, or generalist legal practitioner is particularly relevant
  • Comfortable working across a broad range of commercial legal document types
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to maintain accuracy in high-volume review work
  • Able to follow detailed written protocols consistently
  • Strong judgement when identifying and escalating ambiguous legal-document issues
  • Experience in managed document review, e-discovery, contract management, or data privacy is highly advantageous
  • Demonstrated ability to improve review protocols and quality-control processes
  • Broad legal experience is more important than deep specialisation in a single practice area

Engagement Details

  • Part-time independent contractor engagement
  • Fully remote within the United States
  • Flexible scheduling based on project requirements
  • Compensation: Up to $50/hour
  • Work focuses on legal document review, rubric development, quality control, defect classification, and verification
  • This is a review and verification role, not a legal drafting or advisory position
  • Projects may be extended, shortened, or concluded based on project needs and performance
  • Work must be completed without using confidential or proprietary information belonging to any employer, client, institution, or other third party
  • H1-B and STEM OPT support is unavailable for this engagement
