Job description

We are sharing a specialised part-time consulting opportunity for senior intellectual property professionals with deep expertise in patent prosecution, licensing, IP enforcement, portfolio strategy, and technology-related legal matters.

This role supports advanced AI evaluation work focused on realistic intellectual property workflows. Selected experts will design complex IP scenarios, develop reference outputs, and create evaluation rubrics that reflect how experienced IP counsel approach patentability, prosecution, licensing, enforcement, and freedom-to-operate analysis.

Key Responsibilities

Patent Prosecution & Portfolio Strategy

  • Develop realistic scenarios involving patent prosecution, portfolio development, and strategic IP management
  • Create tasks covering patentability, novelty, inventive step, claim scope, and prosecution strategy
  • Apply relevant frameworks such as 35 U.S.C., the MPEP, USPTO procedures, the European Patent Convention, and PCT processes
  • Produce reference patent applications, claim analyses, and office-action responses
  • Evaluate prosecution strategies for legal accuracy, technical soundness, and commercial relevance

IP Litigation & Enforcement

  • Design scenarios involving patent, trademark, copyright, and other IP disputes
  • Develop tasks covering infringement analysis, claim construction, enforcement strategy, and litigation risk
  • Produce reference litigation memoranda, claim charts, and enforcement analyses
  • Evaluate AI-generated legal reasoning for procedural and substantive accuracy
  • Identify unsupported conclusions, evidentiary gaps, and weaknesses in enforcement strategies

Licensing & Technology Transfer

  • Create scenarios involving IP licensing, commercialisation, and technology-transfer arrangements
  • Develop reference licensing agreements and related negotiation analyses
  • Assess licensing structures, rights allocation, restrictions, royalties, and commercial terms
  • Evaluate legal and strategic issues arising in technology transactions
  • Apply senior-level judgement to complex licensing and IP-commercialisation decisions

Freedom-to-Operate & Patent Analysis

  • Develop tasks involving freedom-to-operate reviews and patent landscape analysis
  • Apply patent search, claim interpretation, and risk-assessment methodologies
  • Evaluate third-party patent exposure and potential infringement risks
  • Assess technical and legal distinctions between relevant patent claims and products or technologies
  • Produce clear reference analyses supporting FTO conclusions

IP Research Tools & Portfolio Management

  • Develop scenarios involving patent search and research platforms such as PatSnap, Innography, USPTO tools, or comparable systems
  • Apply familiarity with IP docketing and portfolio-management platforms such as Anaqua or similar tools
  • Create tasks involving claim-charting, prosecution tracking, and portfolio analysis
  • Structure complex technical and legal information into clear professional outputs
  • Evaluate whether conclusions are appropriately supported by relevant authority and patent data

AI Evaluation & Rubric Development

  • Design expert-level evaluation tasks across intellectual property workflows
  • Draft reference outputs demonstrating authentic senior-level IP judgement
  • Develop rubrics that distinguish professional legal reasoning from generic academic or examination-level responses
  • Review AI-generated outputs for legal accuracy, technical understanding, and practical relevance
  • Identify subtle reasoning errors, missing legal considerations, and unrealistic recommendations
  • Provide clear written rationale supporting evaluation decisions

Ideal Profile

  • 5+ years of professional experience in intellectual property law, patent prosecution, licensing, IP litigation, technology transactions, or a closely related field
  • Senior-level experience as an IP Attorney, Patent Attorney, Patent Agent, IP Counsel, or comparable professional
  • Experience within a major IP law firm, corporate IP department, technology company, pharmaceutical company, or comparable environment
  • Direct ownership of patent portfolios, prosecution matters, licensing negotiations, freedom-to-operate reviews, or IP litigation
  • Strong understanding of patentability analysis, claim construction, prosecution strategy, licensing, and IP enforcement
  • Familiarity with USPTO procedures, EPO practice, PCT processes, or international IP frameworks
  • Strong ability to work with patent research, portfolio-management, and claim-analysis tools
  • Technical or STEM background is highly valued
  • JD with bar admission and USPTO patent bar registration, European Patent Attorney qualification, or an equivalent recognised credential is strongly preferred
  • Experience developing legal training materials, evaluation rubrics, patent guidance, or professional review frameworks is advantageous

Engagement Details

  • Part-time independent contractor engagement
  • Fully remote
  • Flexible scheduling based on project requirements
  • Compensation: $80–$90/hour
  • Projects may be extended, shortened, or concluded based on project needs and performance
  • Work must be completed without using confidential or proprietary information belonging to any employer, client, institution, or other third party
  • H1-B and STEM OPT support is unavailable for this engagement
