SMX Services & Consulting, Inc. is seeking a highly experienced Senior Consultant – SAP IQ Database Support to support the Internal Revenue Service Compliance Data Warehouse environment.
The selected candidate will provide senior-level technical leadership, architecture guidance, operational support, troubleshooting, governance, mentoring, and knowledge transfer across SAP IQ database and data integration environments.
The IRS Compliance Data Warehouse supports more than 5,000 advanced users and manages approximately 10 petabytes of structured and semi-structured data from more than 70 source systems. The environment includes SAP IQ, SAP Data Services, Red Hat Enterprise Linux, Windows, SAN-connected storage, remote mount points, file shares, and direct-attached storage.
The Senior Consultant will:
Lead the design, implementation, enhancement, and operational support of complex enterprise database and data integration solutions.
Provide technical leadership for SAP IQ database administration and SAP Data Services environments.
Support SAP IQ Simplex and Multiplex database environments.
Monitor database access, performance, utilization, reliability, and capacity.
Support database backup and recovery operations.
Maintain and oversee database accounts, privileges, and access controls.
Recommend database architecture, design, and performance improvements.
Plan, test, and support deployment of software patches, version upgrades, configuration changes, and cybersecurity CVE mitigations.
Lead SQL performance tuning and query optimization efforts.
Recommend indexing, partitioning, schema, and server configuration improvements.
Support logical and physical data modeling.
Provide technical leadership for ETL architecture, development, testing, deployment, monitoring, and support.
Guide data ingestion and transformation processes involving structured databases, flat files, XML, text, and other supported formats.
Support ETL error handling, logging, monitoring, reconciliation, restart, and recovery processes.
Troubleshoot complex database, ETL, integration, and performance issues.
Perform root-cause analysis and recommend corrective and preventive actions.
Support technical cases with SAP Technical Support.
Establish and enforce technical standards, governance practices, operational procedures, and documentation.
Mentor database administrators, developers, analysts, and technical staff.
Provide knowledge transfer and training to technical and non-technical stakeholders.
Support development and maintenance of technical plans, standard operating procedures, quality documentation, status reports, and project deliverables.
Collaborate with Government personnel, other contractors, infrastructure teams, application teams, and service providers.
Support periodic after-hours and weekend maintenance activities as required.
These responsibilities align with PWS requirements for Data Management, SAP Data Services Administration, Technical Support, and Transition Support.
Candidates must have:
Minimum of fifteen (15) years of progressively responsible experience supporting enterprise database environments.
Demonstrated ability to lead the design, implementation, enhancement, and operational support of complex database and data integration solutions.
Proven experience providing technical leadership, mentoring, training, and knowledge transfer.
Experience developing and enforcing technical standards, operational procedures, governance practices, and technical documentation.
Strong analytical, troubleshooting, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Ability to communicate effectively with technical teams, management, Government personnel, and business stakeholders.

Must be a U.S. Citizen.
Must be able to successfully complete applicable IRS personnel security and suitability requirements.
Must be able to satisfy federal tax-compliance screening requirements.
Must satisfy Selective Service registration requirements, if applicable.
Must successfully complete required fingerprinting and background investigation processes.
Must complete required IRS security forms and Non-Disclosure Agreements.
Must complete required IRS security, privacy, records management, and role-based training.
Must be eligible to receive and maintain applicable IRS Personal Identity Verification (PIV) credentials and staff-like access.
Employment in this position is contingent upon meeting all applicable federal contract and IRS security requirements. The solicitation requires IRS staff-like access approval before personnel may perform work requiring access to IRS systems or sensitive information.
This position is expected to be primarily remote.
Work will generally be performed from an approved contractor or remote work location within the United States.
Occasional on-site meetings or support may be coordinated with the IRS.
On-site work, when required, must comply with applicable IRS security protocols.
The PWS identifies remote performance from contractor facilities as the primary work arrangement.
Activities requiring participation by IRS personnel are generally conducted between 7:30 a.m. and 5:30 p.m. Eastern Time.
Periodic after-hours or weekend support may be required for scheduled database maintenance activities.
Government-furnished laptop/desktop equipment and PIV credentials are expected to be provided for assigned personnel.
Pay Range: $117.30–$121.90 per hour
Compensation will be based on demonstrated qualifications, SAP IQ expertise, relevant enterprise database experience, certifications, federal experience, and overall alignment with contract requirements.
Final compensation will be determined based on experience, technical capability, and ability to satisfy applicable contract eligibility requirements.
Preference may be given to candidates with:
Extensive hands-on SAP IQ administration experience
SAP IQ certification
Prior U.S. Federal Government experience
Prior IRS or Department of the Treasury experience
Experience supporting medium-security federal information systems
Experience with SAP Data Services
Large-scale enterprise data warehouse experience
Experience with mission-critical production systems
Experience with SAN-connected database environments
Strong ETL architecture and operational support experience
Experience supporting distributed Linux and Windows environments
Experience collaborating across Government and multi-contractor teams
