Job Role: Bookkeeper

Compensation range: $1,500 AUD - $1,700 AUD / Monthly

Engagement type: Independent Contractor Agreement

Work Schedule: This role is expected to align with the AU business hours (approx. 9 AM - 5 PM, Monday to Friday) for collaboration, but as a contractor, you’ll have flexibility in how you manage your time.

Who We Are: At Hunt St, we help Australian companies hire top remote talent in the Philippines. For this role, you will be engaged directly by the client as an independent contractor. We are not an outsourcing agency. All of our roles are 100% remote so you'll be able to work from home.

Who The Client Is: A federally funded community and aged care provider delivering services through aged care, NDIS, Department of Veterans’ Affairs, and Hospital Transition Care programs. The role sits within the finance function, working closely with the operations lead and the external tax team.

Role Overview: We’re looking for an experienced Bookkeeper to take ownership of day-to-day accounts and bookkeeping operations. You’ll manage invoicing, AP/AR, payroll preparation, and reporting across a multi-stream business where 80% of revenue is federal government funded. You’ll work closely with the internal operations lead and the external accounting team that handles tax lodgement.

Key Responsibilities: 

  • Raise and issue invoices across federal government programs (aged care, NDIS, DVA, HTC), brokerage and private pay clients.
  • Up to 150  invoices  reconciling on a weekly basis and ready for pay. 
  • Assist with generating client statements on a monthly basis.
  • Manage accounts receivable and accounts payable end-to-end, including reconciliations and follow-ups.
  • Prepare and process payroll in Xero, ready for sign-off and final payment by the operations lead bi weekly.
  • Support BAS and PAYG preparation alongside the operations lead.
  • Maintain a clean chart of accounts (provided) and ensure source documentation is accurate and ready for the external tax team.
  • Generate regular P&L, balance sheet and management reports.
  • Flag cost trends and suggest improvements to cash flow, margins and spend where relevant.
  • Coordinate with the internal CRM/timesheet system, which feeds both payroll and invoicing.
  • General office accounts management and support for day to day business operations.

Requirements

Required Skills and Qualifications:

  • 3+ years bookkeeping experience supporting Australian businesses.
  • Strong working knowledge of Xero — payroll, invoicing, reconciliations, reporting.
  • Solid understanding of the Australian tax environment (ATO, BAS, PAYG, GST).
  • Confident with chart of accounts, P&L and balance sheet interpretation.
  • Excellent written and spoken English.
  • Strong logical reasoning and the ability to pick up industry-specific invoicing rules.
  • Comfortable working behind a VPN.

Nice-to-Have:

  • Prior experience in aged care, NDIS, community services or any federally funded health/care sector.
  • Exposure to CRM-based timesheet systems feeding payroll and invoicing.
  • Familiarity with multi-entity or multi-stream invoicing environments.
