Job description

OpsFi is a growing, boutique accounting and advisory firm servicing high growth clients in the tech industry and our offices are based in Bree Street, Cape Town.

We have specific openings for fully remote roles (within South Africa) and roles based in Cape Town to build a greater hybrid office presence (where we will expect a certain amount of office days per month for the Cape Town team).

Our offshore client is an InsurTech firm based in California in the United States leveraging modern software platforms, AI risk modelling, and state-of-the-art hardware engineering to provide next-generation insurance solutions for B2C and B2B clients in the United States.

We are looking to recruit a Product Owner to join their offshore division, that will work exclusively for their Engineering team (i.e. fully integrated into their team and workflows). You would work remotely from South Africa with a combination of SA & US-based teams. This is an exciting opportunity to grow experience in international markets and work alongside a dynamic team who are building out exciting products in the insurance and tech space.

We are growing the structure in South Africa, and the titles will evolve as the structure takes shape, so it is a great time to join the team. This opportunity would suit an individual who is looking to progress their career and develop intuition.

Key Responsibilities:

In this role, you will take ownership of the product lifecycle, translating business vision into actionable development tasks and ensuring engineering delivers high-value software. Your responsibilities will include but not be limited to:

  • Backlog & Sprint Management: Maintain, refine, and prioritise the product backlog, ensuring user stories are clearly defined and ready for upcoming engineering sprints.
  • Requirements & Acceptance Criteria: Translate high-level business requirements and feature ideas into detailed user stories, technical specs, and clear acceptance criteria.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Act as the primary bridge between executive leadership, engineering, QA, and operational teams to align delivery timelines with business goals.
  • Feature Validation & UAT: Partner with QA to conduct User Acceptance Testing (UAT), ensuring delivered features meet all functional requirements before release.
  • Workflow & Platform Enhancement: Continuously evaluate platform features, API integrations, and internal tools to identify opportunities for workflow automation and improved user experience.

Requirements

  • Experience: 2–4 years of hands-on experience as a Product Owner, Technical BA, or Associate Product Manager in a modern software environment.
  • Technical Skills: Strong experience with Agile/Scrum frameworks, backlog management tools (Jira, Confluence), and defining technical feature specifications.
  • Core Competencies: Good grasp of web platform architecture, API integrations, and data-driven software tools. Ability to simplify complex business logic for technical teams.
  • Mindset: Highly organised, decisive, and structured, with strong problem-solving skills and a bias for execution in a fast-moving environment.
  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Information Systems, Computer Science, Business Analysis, or equivalent practical experience.

Benefits

On offer for the right candidate is a competitive package with the opportunity to progress their career in a fast-paced, growing and dynamic firm.
