As a Field Sales Manager – Canada Central, you will be trusted to develop and manage the Alcon surgical ophthalmology franchise. In this role, you will lead, coach, and direct regional sales efforts while spending meaningful time in the field to support customer relationships and business growth in selected key accounts. In this role, a typical day will include:
Effectively lead Account Managers and Equipment Managers across both private and public sectors.
Coordinate support roles and activities, including those of Cataract Refractive Managers, Clinical Applications Specialists, and Technical Service personnel.
Deliver against annual regional sales quota, meet all expense objectives, re-sign core business, manage contract compliance, increase ATIOL penetration, meet corporate ASP targets, and support product launch goals.
Develop talent through training and coaching; ensure appropriate development and succession plans are in place; conduct semi-annual and annual performance reviews; and identify high-performing employees to support promotional readiness and career development in partnership with the DoS and HR team.
Plan and lead regional meetings, support and contribute to national sales meetings, present regional achievements and future expectations during quarterly senior management meetings, and conduct regular one-on-one meetings with direct reports.
Represent Alcon’s financial interests by converting competitive accounts, leveraging differentiated products and technologies, negotiating contracts in partnership with the DoS/CBUH, responding effectively to multi-site RFPs, strengthening customer relationships, and increasing ATIOL penetration.
Regularly update the contract calendar, conduct annual business reviews with key accounts, ensure contract compliance, and complete in-depth bid analysis.
Implement key marketing initiatives and contribute to marketing strategy by providing regular feedback from the field.
Manage broader corporate initiatives, including account management expectations, human resource planning, and compliance with finance standards. Plan regional resource requirements to support new product launches, installations, and training needs; ensure each territory receives appropriate support based on business priorities; and collaborate with other Field Sales Managers and the marketing team to determine quarterly priorities and resource allocation.
WHAT YOU’LL BRING TO ALCON:
Bachelor’s degree required.
5+ years of experience in ophthalmology pharmaceuticals, surgical sales, or the medical device industry.
Experience with public tender RFPs.
Demonstrated experience in training, coaching, and developing people.
Demonstrated ability to lead and influence within a regional or national scope of responsibility.
Demonstrated change-management experience, including leading multi-stakeholder teams through change.
Strong negotiation, sales, organizational, and strategic-thinking skills.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Strong presentation skills that build trust and commitment.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office, including PowerPoint and Excel, and experience with computerized sales administration systems; demonstrated attitude and aptitude to learn and leverage new enablement tools and AI.
Valid driver’s license.
Ability to travel up to 40%, including national and international conferences; weekend and evening work may be required.
