We also have a contract to provide site support and management services for the Ellesmere Island Commercial Support Contract in Alert, Nunavut. Nasittuq's mission is to provide exemplary technical and management services to our Canadian Government customers, while increasing opportunities for Inuit participation as trainees, employees, suppliers and owners. Nasittuq Corporation is a partnership between ATCO Frontec Ltd. and Pan Arctic Inuit Logistics Corporation (PAIL). PAIL is an organization wholly owned by seven shareholder corporations representing Canada’s Inuit community. These organizations Include: Inuvialuit Development Corporation (IDC); Nunasi Corporation; Makivik Corporation; the Nunatsiavut Group of Companies (NGC); Qikiqtaaluk Corporation; Sakku Investments Corporation, and Kitikmeot Corporation. PAIL’s first initiative was to pursue the award of the North Warning System operations and maintenance contract through a Joint Venture with ATCO Frontec.

Nasittuq Corporation (from the Inuktitut word meaning “looking out from the highest point”) operates and maintains the North Warning System (NWS), a critical joint Canada-US radar network with 47 sites across Northern Canada.

NATURE AND SCOPE:

 

Reporting to the Inuit Benefits Manager, the Inuit Benefits Advisor is responsible for representing Nasittuq in at conferences, trade shows and in building relationships with local communities and act as a liaison to promote understanding, foster positive relationships with communities and our Inuit employees.

 

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

Workforce Engagement, & Support:

  • Consult with Inuit employees on a regular basis to ensure their workplace needs and career goals are being met and assist in navigating any workplace challenges including workforce integration, mentorship and career development.
  • Travel to Nasittuq main sites on a regular basis (in conjunction with trade shows/events) to meet and connect with Inuit employees to ensure their success in their roles and future roles.
  • Participate in the interview process with Human Resources of Inuit candidates for FFP positions to provide support to the applicant as well as provide information regarding training and other support available to all Inuit employees.
  • Address employees are concerned confidentially and appropriately, referring individuals to support as required (HR, EAP, local health resources, etc.)

 

Community & Stakeholder Relations:

  • Attend applicable events such as trade shows, career fairs and Indigenous program events on behalf of Nasittuq, representing Nasittuq and providing information regarding the company and it’s training programs. Track all events in a spreadsheet. 
  • Work collaboratively with each Zone Manager to identify community events that Nasittuq can be involved in from a branding perspective.
  • Work directly with local communities in which we operate to foster positive relationships.
  • Develop and deliver information presentations to communities and other stakeholders regarding employment opportunities in each community and highlight any current vacancies in the community and/or training & development opportunities.

 

Cultural Awareness & Training:

  • Identify, prepare, organize and/or facilitate training to employees and managers on Inuit-specific topics, such as cultural awareness training, Inuit traditional values training and awareness activities.
  • Promote and maintain an inclusive work environment by educating employees on Indigenous cultural perspectives.
  • Gather feedback from Indigenous employees on cultural programming and identify areas for improvement.
  • Organize on-site and company-wide Indigenous observances, such as National Indigenous Peoples Day, National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, Nunavut Day, etc.

 

Compliance, Reporting, Documentation

  • Contribute to the development of plans, resource materials and other documents as requested.
  • Maintain accurate records including employee communications, concerns and event participation. 
  • Performs other duties/projects as assigned, to support the overall program and mission, and other initiatives of Nasittuq.
