BASIC SCOPE/PURPOSE

 

Summary: The Accounting Manager is responsible for overseeing the day-to-day accounting operations within a fast-paced logistics environment, ensuring accuracy, compliance, and efficiency across financial processes. This role manages the full cycle of accounting activities, supervises staff, and supports strategic financial initiatives including reporting, audits, and process improvements.


 

PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES/ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS


JOB REQUIREMENTS:

Leadership & Oversight

  • Supervise, mentor, and develop accounting staff, including accounts payable and staff accountants. 
  • Review and approve work performed by team members to ensure accuracy, completeness, and compliance with company policies. 
  • Establish performance goals, conduct evaluations, and support ongoing professional development. 
  • Cross-train team members to ensure continuity of operations and adequate coverage.

Accounts Payable & Vendor Management

  • Oversee maintenance of vendor records, including W-9 compliance and onboarding procedures. 
  • Manage the processing of all vendor invoices through the A/P automation platform, ensuring timeliness and accuracy. 
  • Review and approve invoice coding, ensuring proper general ledger classification and authorization. 
  • Monitor vendor communications and resolve escalated issues or discrepancies. 
  • Oversee preparation and timely filing of 1099 forms in compliance with IRS requirements. 
  • Ensure appropriate sales and use tax treatment on vendor invoices.

General Accounting Responsibilities

  • Oversee preparation of general ledger entries and ensure proper documentation and support. 
  • Ensure timely resolution of reconciliation discrepancies and accounting issues. 
  • Maintain confidentiality of financial and organizational information. 
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Financial Reporting & Close Process

  • Manage and oversee the month-end and year-end close processes, ensuring accuracy and timeliness. 
  • Review journal entries, account reconciliations, and financial statements. 
  • Ensure all balance sheet accounts (cash, leases, payroll, customer accounts, etc.) are reconciled monthly. 
  • Maintain and oversee the automated consolidation system, including data uploads, job scheduling, and validation. 
  • Analyze financial results and provide insights to senior leadership.


EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE

 

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (CPA preferred). 
  • 5+ years of progressive accounting experience, preferably in logistics, transportation, or supply chain industries. 
  • Prior supervisory or management experience required. 
  • Strong knowledge of GAAP, financial reporting, and internal controls. 
  • Experience with ERP systems and A/P automation platforms. 
  • Advanced Excel and analytical skills. 
  • Strong leadership, communication, and problem-solving abilities.

 


Work Environment

 

  • Office: This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines.
  • Warehouse: While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is frequently exposed to moving mechanical parts. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to noisy.
