The Hazmat Safety & Compliance Manager will lead the development, execution, standardization, and continuous improvement of the enterprise-wide hazardous materials, dangerous goods, and safety compliance programs across the Staci Americas network.
This role is responsible for ensuring compliant storage, handling, transportation, documentation, and operational execution of hazardous materials while driving a proactive, audit-ready safety culture focused on operational excellence, regulatory compliance, risk mitigation, and performance visibility.
The position partners closely with Operations, HR, IT, Transportation, Operational Excellence, and clients to support safe and scalable operations, strengthen compliance initiatives, standardize safety and hazmat processes, oversee audits and training programs, and improve operational consistency across all facilities.
This role is primarily remote with targeted travel based on operational needs, audits, onboarding support, training, escalations, and high-risk site assessments.
Key Responsibilities
Enterprise Safety & Hazmat Program Leadership
- Lead the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of enterprise-wide safety and hazardous materials programs across the network
- Drive a proactive, standardized, and audit-ready culture focused on operational safety, hazardous materials compliance, and risk mitigation
- Partner with Operations leadership to strengthen accountability, compliance, and operational execution
- Support continuous improvement initiatives focused on reducing operational risk, improving compliance metrics, and enhancing consistency across facilities
Hazardous Materials & Dangerous Goods Compliance
- Oversee hazardous materials and dangerous goods operations across the network
- Ensure compliance with applicable OSHA, DOT, 49 CFR, IATA, IMDG, EPA, and carrier requirements
- Support safe storage, segregation, labeling, packaging, transportation, and processing of hazardous materials
- Develop and maintain standardized hazmat SOPs, work instructions, and operational playbooks
- Validate hazardous materials data integrity including UN numbers, hazard classes, packing groups, and shipping requirements
- Partner with Operations and Transportation teams to ensure compliant operational execution
- Support retailer and carrier-specific compliance requirements
Incident Management & Escalation Oversight
- Oversee incident reporting, investigation follow-up, and corrective action processes across all facilities
- Ensure timely and accurate documentation of recordable incidents, near misses, corrective actions, and compliance activities
- Lead or validate root cause analysis and corrective action planning for recordable incidents, hazmat-related events, and elevated safety concerns
- Coordinate cross-functional escalation calls and operational reviews following significant incidents or audit findings
- Partner with site leadership to ensure corrective actions are implemented and sustained
Audit, Compliance & Risk Management
- Conduct scheduled and targeted site audits focused on safety, hazardous materials handling, operational compliance, PPE, MHE operations, and training requirements
- Identify operational risks, recurring trends, and compliance gaps across the network
- Ensure corrective actions are completed, validated, and closed within established timelines
- Maintain audit-ready documentation and support regulatory readiness initiatives
- Monitor regulatory updates and communicate operational impacts or required process changes
Training & Operational Enablement
- Develop and deliver hazardous materials, dangerous goods, and safety training programs for site personnel
- Support network compliance for MHE certifications, hazmat certifications, and new hire safety orientation
- Certify and recertify employees on hazmat handling, packaging, labeling, shipping, and operational safety requirements
- Maintain training records and compliance documentation
- Provide coaching and operational support to site leadership and employees
Systems, Reporting & Operational Integration
- Support hazardous materials configuration and validation within WMS and operational systems
- Assist with implementation of hazmat logic including LQ/EQ classifications, shipment restrictions, package-level controls, and labeling requirements
- Support integration and utilization of Lumiform inspections, SharePoint SOP libraries, Power BI dashboards, and safety management systems
- Develop executive-level reporting and KPI dashboards related to safety and hazardous materials compliance
- Analyze trends and partner with leadership on improvement strategies
Client & Operational Support
- Partner with clients to support hazardous materials onboarding, operational readiness, and compliance understanding
- Participate in onboarding meetings, operational reviews, and client discussions related to hazardous materials and safety requirements
- Support new site launches, operational assessments, and implementation initiatives
Travel Expectations
- Travel frequency will vary based on operational needs, audits, onboarding support, investigations, training, and high-risk site assessments
- Approximate travel expectation: 10β20%
Qualifications
- Bachelorβs degree preferred in Safety, Environmental Health & Safety, Supply Chain, Logistics, Industrial Engineering, or related field
- 5+ years of experience in safety, hazardous materials, dangerous goods, warehousing, transportation, logistics, or 3PL operations
- Strong knowledge of OSHA regulations, 49 CFR, IATA, IMDG, root cause analysis methodologies, and safety auditing practices
- Experience supporting hazardous materials operations within warehouse or 3PL environments preferred
- Experience working within multi-site operations preferred
- Strong analytical, organizational, communication, and leadership skills
- Experience with WMS platforms, Power BI, SharePoint, Lumiform, or safety management systems preferred
Preferred Certifications
- OSHA 30
- 49 CFR Hazardous Materials Certification
- IATA Dangerous Goods Certification
- CSP, ASP, CHMM, CDGP, or equivalent certifications preferred
