Senior .NET engineers and architects are consistently hired remotely, particularly in financial services, healthcare IT, and enterprise software companies on the Microsoft stack. The growth category is .NET engineers with Azure integration experience, where companies are moving legacy applications to cloud-native architecture and need engineers who can bridge the old and new stacks. Technical leads and solution architects with .NET depth are in persistent demand at Microsoft partners and independent software vendors, which tend to hire remotely at rates above average for enterprise software.
Framework version clarity is the primary filter. Engineers who have worked with both .NET Framework 4.x and .NET Core or .NET 5-plus but describe their experience generically often fail automated screening at companies that have already completed migration to modern .NET. Azure integration specificity is a second filter: senior .NET engineers with cloud experience who describe it in generic terms rather than specific service terms (Azure Service Bus, Azure Functions, Cosmos DB) are frequently deprioritized. Third, the C# version and language feature currency matters more than most engineers realize: modern C# features such as nullable reference types, pattern matching, records, and async patterns signal recency, and their absence from a profile signals stagnation.
