Job Description

As Household Hazardous Waste Manager, you’ll manage, direct, and coordinate safe and efficient operation of the
household hazardous waste programs, interfacing directly with customers to ensure proper event/collection
center management and that contract requirements are being met for the customer’s collection program.
Primary Responsibilities (Essential Functions): The main duties and responsibilities.
 Coordinate all collections to include transportation, equipment set up, equipment rentals, hotel room
reservations, staffing requirements, part time staffing payroll, and part time staff recruiting.
 Assist customer service with creating profiles and providing a Master Drum List so that Customer service
can create the shipping documents.
 Create draft invoices to expedite the invoicing with customer service.
 Answer technical questions from collection center staff which can be at odd hours.
 Ensure clean communication with internal operations and transportation.
 Review profitability after the completion of a project.
 Comply with all company policies and procedures.
 Provide training presentations to customers on proper event operations.
 Assist the HHW Business Development Manager with marketing this business line by attending trade
shows or regional meetings. 
 During off season make sales calls on manufacturing and industrial waste generators to generate revenue.
 Provide support to the service center by coaching and developing managers and/or supervisors and
employees within their service center through continuous coaching and feedback on performance, and
conduct performance appraisals for their direct reports, ensuring alignment with company goals and
regulatory requirements.
 Make recommendations to management on salary adjustments, promotions, transfers, and dismissals
within their service center.
 Participate in the recruitment and hiring of service center employees and drivers.
 Conduct regular meetings to keep their teams informed of current issues and events,
procedural/operational changes, and new developments in the department and Company.
 Accountable to provide on-the-job training and instruction to ensure training compliance.
 Provide technical support to field staff and managers, assist in the content development and deployment
of technical training
 Provide and maintain compliance with personal protective equipment for employees.
 Communicate and train on safety protocols and compliance measures to ensure operational efficiency
and regulatory adherence at their service center.

Work Environment:
 Required to wear company-provided personal protective equipment including eye protection, foot
protection, hard hat, Tyvek coveralls, and respirator. 
 Must be able to regularly access and use general office equipment including phones, computers, copiers,
etc.
 Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds unassisted
 Must be willing to travel for weekend projects. 
 Must be able to work 10 to 12 hours during collection events.
 Must be able to work in non-climate-controlled environments.

Qualifications

Education, Experience and Skills:
 Education: (BA or BS degree required or preferred)
o High school diploma or GED
o Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry or Environmental Sciences preferred

 Experience: (Required minimum of years of relevant experience.)
o Experience managing or working household hazardous waste events
o Experience in Material Management waste disposal options preferred
o 5+ years of experience with an environmental services provider
o CDL Class B license preferred
o HAZWOPER 24 or 40-hour certification or ability to obtain

 Skills: (The skills listed are the abilities and knowledge required to perform the job effectively.)
o Demonstrates knowledge and the ability to stay abreast of applicable regulations and codes as
they apply to the waste industry and those specific to area of responsibility
o General knowledge of RCRA and DOT regulations as it relates to the transportation and
processing of waste is preferred
o Proficiency using Microsoft Office software suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, Power Point)
o Excellent verbal, written and organizational skills
o Creative thinker with ability to consider “out of the box” solutions
o Must be able to pass a DEA background check when relevant
