Job description

Genesis10 is currently seeking an Underwriting Assistant for a Remote position with a Major Insurance Company located in Chicago, IL. This is a contract-to-hire opportunity.

Compensation: $32-36 an hour w2. Conversion salary is up to $75,000 annually.


Position Overview:
The Underwriting Assistant provides essential support to the underwriting team by coordinating submission intake, analyzing loss and exposure data, and maintaining accurate underwriting files. This role serves as a key liaison between underwriters and brokers, ensuring information is complete, properly documented, and entered into the policy management system. The ideal candidate brings hands-on commercial insurance experience, strong attention to detail, and the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, collaborative environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Evaluate new submissions for completeness and request missing information as needed
  • Communicate with assigned underwriters and brokers regarding exposure, loss, and general account information
  • Analyze and summarize loss information for the underwriting team
  • Investigate insured operations, identify changes, document account structures, and capture relevant account data
  • Set up and maintain accurate underwriting file documentation
  • Enter raw exposure data into the ORES policy management system
  • Track underwriting quotes and maintain pertinent data related to rates, quotes, binders, and other key statistics
  • Maintain active underwriting files for completeness and accuracy
  • Assist with the setup and tracking of assignments and tasks for accounts
  • Develop strong working relationships with underwriters, assigned brokers, and members of the client's organization

Primary Requirements:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Minimum of 3 years of commercial insurance experience
  • Approximately 3 years of Underwriting Assistant experience
  • Experience supporting underwriting processes, including submission intake, account documentation, and loss/exposure information
  • Strong planning and organizational skills with the ability to maintain accurate records
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills across multiple platforms
  • Ability to multitask and effectively manage competing priorities and deadlines
  • Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office products
  • Strong Excel proficiency, approximately 7–8 out of 10
  • Strong attention to detail and accurate proofreading skills
  • Ability to make informed decisions and work with increasing autonomy
  • Excellent customer service and relationship-building skills
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced team environment
  • Initiative and willingness to learn, ask questions, and identify opportunities for greater efficiency

Desired Skills:

  • Excess & Surplus (E&S) insurance experience
  • Bachelor's degree
  • Strong overall technical aptitude and ability to learn new or evolving systems and tools
