We are sharing a specialised consulting opportunity for experienced CNC Machinists with strong expertise in machine setup and operation, Haas controls, precision measurement, blueprint interpretation, GD&T, troubleshooting, and production optimisation to contribute to an advanced AI training and manufacturing-evaluation project.
Selected professionals will apply hands-on machining expertise to realistic CNC production scenarios involving both industrial and desktop platforms, interpreting engineering documentation, validating dimensional accuracy, troubleshooting machining issues, and providing expert feedback on manufacturability and process quality. No prior experience in AI is required.
Key Responsibilities
CNC Machine Setup & Operation

Set up and operate CNC machines across industrial and desktop platforms

Configure tooling, work-holding, offsets, and machining parameters

Load and verify CNC programs prior to production

Support both first-piece and repeat-production workflows
-
Apply safe and consistent machining practices across varied jobs
Haas & Multi-Platform Machining
-
Operate Haas control systems, including VF-2 or comparable platforms
-
Apply practical expertise to industrial CNC machining environments
-
Work with desktop or hobbyist CNC systems such as Makera Carvera where applicable
-
Adapt setups and processes across different machine capabilities
-
Evaluate differences between hobbyist and industrial machining workflows
Precision Measurement & Inspection

Inspect machined parts against engineering drawings and specifications
-
Use calipers, micrometers, indicators, CMMs, and related measurement tools
-
Verify dimensional accuracy and geometric conformity
-
Identify deviations and determine appropriate corrective actions
-
Maintain strong quality standards across production outputs
Blueprint & GD&T Interpretation

Interpret engineering drawings and manufacturing documentation

Apply GD&T callouts correctly during setup and inspection

Identify critical dimensions, tolerances, datums, and geometric controls

Translate drawing requirements into practical machining decisions

Flag ambiguities or manufacturability concerns when appropriate
Machining Troubleshooting

Diagnose issues such as tool wear, chatter, dimensional drift, and setup instability

Identify root causes of machining defects

Adjust tooling, feeds, speeds, offsets, or work-holding as needed

Evaluate part quality across different materials and geometries

Recommend practical process improvements
Manufacturability & Process Optimisation

Collaborate with CAM programmers and technical stakeholders

Provide feedback on setup strategy and machining feasibility
-
Identify opportunities to improve cycle efficiency and process reliability

Evaluate manufacturability across metals, plastics, and varied part geometries

Support continuous improvement in machining workflows
Ideal Profile

5+ years of hands-on CNC machining experience
-
Strong experience with both CNC setup and production
-
Demonstrated expertise with Haas control systems
-
Experience with Haas VF-2 or comparable industrial platforms

Familiarity with desktop or hobbyist CNC platforms such as Makera Carvera is highly valuable

Strong blueprint-reading and GD&T interpretation skills

Proficiency with precision measurement equipment

Experience using calipers, micrometers, indicators, and CMMs

Practical experience machining both metals and plastics

Strong troubleshooting and process-optimisation skills

Ability to identify and resolve machining-quality issues

Excellent written and verbal English communication skills

No prior AI-training or model-evaluation experience is required
