Job description

We are seeking a Senior Cloud Applications Architect to join a major application migration and modernization program for a large U.S.-based enterprise in the energy sector.

The architect will work alongside an AWS Professional Services engineering team, client application architects, infrastructure engineers, developers, security specialists, and operations teams to migrate and modernize two significant enterprise application platforms: Endur and SQMD.

The role spans both migration and modernization.

For Endur, the architect will focus on automated/scripted application installation, repeatable application packaging, environment configuration, and deployment of .NET and JVS extensions into the new AWS environments.

For SQMD, the role will have a stronger modernization focus, including .NET application modernization, containerization using Amazon ECS, authentication integration, and refactoring existing messaging patterns to use Amazon SQS and SNS.

This is not purely an advisory architecture position. The successful candidate should be comfortable moving between architecture, hands-on engineering, troubleshooting, deployment automation, code-level discussions, and direct customer interaction.

Key Responsibilities

Endur Application Migration

  • Lead the application architecture and engineering activities required to migrate Endur workloads from legacy infrastructure to AWS.
  • Design and implement repeatable scripted and packaged Endur installation processes.
  • Automate application installation and configuration wherever possible to support multiple Endur environments.
  • Define application configuration and deployment patterns across development, testing, staging, disaster recovery, and production environments.
  • Coordinate application installation with infrastructure provisioning performed through Terraform.
  • Identify and document application dependencies, configuration requirements, connectivity requirements, and integration points.

Endur Extensions & Deployment

Messaging Modernization

  • Refactor legacy messaging and application integration patterns using:
  • Amazon SQS
  • Amazon SNS
  • Design reliable asynchronous communication patterns between application components.
  • Address messaging concerns such as:
  • Retry behavior
  • Dead-letter queues
  • Failure handling
  • Message duplication
  • Idempotency
  • Ordering requirements
  • Error recovery
  • Observability
  • Work with upstream and downstream application teams to minimize disruption while modernizing messaging interfaces.

Authentication & Security

  • Implement and integrate required MEA authentication patterns within the modernized application environment.
  • Work with client security and identity teams to ensure authentication and authorization requirements are correctly implemented.
  • Ensure sensitive configuration, credentials, certificates, and application secrets are securely managed.
  • Apply secure application architecture principles to modernized .NET and containerized workloads.

Application Deployment & DevOps

  • Establish automated build, package, configuration, and deployment patterns.
  • Work with engineering teams to create robust CI/CD processes for Endur extensions and SQMD services.
  • Support separation of application configuration from application code.
  • Establish consistent promotion processes between environments.
  • Design effective rollback and recovery mechanisms.
  • Improve application logging, monitoring, health checks, and operational diagnostics.

Architecture & Migration

  • Participate in discovery of legacy application architectures and dependencies.
  • Define target-state and transitional application architectures.
  • Develop migration sequencing and application cutover approaches.
  • Identify technical risks and recommend practical mitigation strategies.
  • Support migration rehearsals, testing, production cutovers, and post-migration stabilization.
  • Troubleshoot complex issues across application, infrastructure, networking, databases, messaging, and security layers.

Collaboration with AWS Professional Services

  • Work as an integrated member of a combined client, AWS Professional Services, and delivery engineering team.
  • Participate actively in AWS architecture sessions, technical workshops, design reviews, and engineering working sessions.
  • Translate architectural recommendations into practical engineering solutions.
  • Clearly document technical decisions, dependencies, assumptions, and risks.
  • Coordinate closely with the Cloud Infrastructure Architect to ensure application and infrastructure architectures remain aligned.

Required Qualifications
