Job description

The Koch Internship Program (KIP) is a paid experiential learning program run by Stand Together Fellowships that offers professional development, leadership training, and meaningful work experience at non-profits tackling some of our nation's most pressing policy challenges all over the United States. Early-career professionals including undergraduate/graduate/law students and recent graduates are encouraged to apply. Eligible candidates will be geographically located in and authorized to work in the United States through the duration of the program. Successful candidates will interview with both our non-profit partner organizations and Stand Together Fellowships staff, so we strongly encourage you to begin the admissions process early!

About the Role

FREOPP is seeking a highly motivated intern to serve as an Operations Intern in our growing organization.

This is a hands-on, high trust role for someone who enjoys learning quickly, solving problems, and bringing structure to a fast paced environment. The Operations Intern will work closely with senior staff and contribute across a wide range of organizational functions, including operations, development, research, scheduling, data management, and special projects.

Because FREOPP is a rapidly growing organization, this is not a traditional administrative internship. While the role includes important backend responsibilities that keep the organization running, the Operations Intern will also be trusted with meaningful responsibilities, independent projects, and opportunities to improve how FREOPP operates.

The role is intentionally broad and dynamic. The successful candidate should be comfortable handling both routine details and unfamiliar problems, and should approach both with the same level of care

About FREOPP

The Foundation for Research on Equal Opportunity (FREOPP) is a nonprofit think tank that produces policy research and practical implementation strategies designed to expand opportunity for Americans who need it most.

FREOPP advances policy ideas that:

  • address the needs of individuals with wealth or income below the national median;
  • have the potential to earn bipartisan support; and
  • increase individual liberty.

Through rigorous analysis and practical implementation strategies, FREOPP develops durable policy solutions across healthcare, welfare reform, child welfare, housing, K–12, higher education, and more that expand opportunity and strengthen individual agency.

Responsibilities

Operations & Executive Support

  • Support the daily operations of a growing policy organization.
  • Coordinate meetings, calendars, correspondence, and organizational logistics.
  • Maintain accurate records and ensure recurring processes are completed reliably and on time.
  • Assist with event planning, office administration, and other operational needs.
  • Development & External Engagement

  • Support donor and prospect management through CRM maintenance, correspondence, scheduling, and research.
  • Assist with external communications and donor related projects.
  • Maintain and improve organizational databases and tracking systems.
  • Research & Special Projects

  • Assist with occasional research and execution of special projects.
  • Take ownership of development projects from initial research through implementation.
  • Systems & Process Improvement

  • Identify opportunities to improve organizational workflows, databases, and internal systems.
  • Research and implement tools and processes that help FREOPP operate more effectively.
  • Develop and maintain trackers, SOPs, and other resources that create consistency and organization.
  • Document processes to improve future onboarding and continuity.
  • Wherever Needed

  • Jump in wherever needed. The Operations Intern may be asked to tackle anything from financial administration and event planning to research and organizational problem solving.

  • Who We’re Looking For

    We’re looking for someone who:

  • Is humble and dependable and understands that both small details and larger projects matter.
  • Takes initiative and has an “I’ll figure it out” attitude.
  • Learns quickly and is comfortable asking questions.
  • Is highly organized and detail oriented.
  • Communicates clearly and professionally.
  • Can independently manage recurring responsibilities and follow through reliably.
  • Enjoys creating order out of chaos.
  • Is willing to take on unfamiliar or unglamorous tasks when necessary.
  • Is comfortable working in an environment where processes are still evolving.
  • Brings a positive attitude and works well with a close knit team.
  • Wants to grow professionally and become a meaningful contributor to the team.
  • Prior professional or internship experience is not required. We are more interested in judgment, work ethic, curiosity, communication skills, and willingness to learn than in an extensive resume.

    What You’ll Gain

The Operations Intern will have the opportunity to:

  • Work directly with senior staff at a growing policy organization.
  • Take on meaningful responsibility rather than simply shadowing or completing routine intern assignments.
  • Gain exposure to development, operations, policy research, and organizational strategy.
  • Learn how a small organization operates across multiple functions.
  • Develop practical skills in systems, project management, research, CRM management, and process improvement.
  • Contribute ideas and help improve the way FREOPP works.
  • Stand Together Fellowships believes that diversity in experiences, perspectives, knowledge and ideas fuels creativity, broadens knowledge, and helps drive success. Our admissions office treats all program participants and applicants with honesty, dignity, respect and sensitivity. We welcome all qualified applicants regardless of color, race, religion, religious creed, sex, gender or gender identity, gender expression, sexual orientation, national origin, citizenship, ethnicity, ancestry, age, physical disability, mental disability, medical condition, pregnancy (including medical needs which may arise from pregnancy, childbirth, or related medical conditions), military and veteran status, genetic information, marital or familial status, political affiliation, or any other legally recognized protected basis under federal, state or local laws, regulations or ordinances.
