The opportunity

The Learning Support Specialist facilitates student learning by supporting academic content and by promoting and modeling the use of appropriate study and learning skills. The Learning Support Specialist integrates effective learning strategies into their facilitation, encouraging independent and successful learners. The Learning Support Specialist supports students through a variety of modalities including 1:1 and 1:many live sessions, and the building of asynchronous learning artifacts, such as skills videos. This is a remote position. You will report to an Academic Support Manager #LI-Remote

Hours of Operation:

9:00am EST-10:00am EST, Sundays and Thursdays

9:00am EST-9:00pm EST, Mondays, Tuesdays, and Wednesdays

9:00am EST-6:00pm EST, Fridays

High-Need Support Hours:

12:00pm EST-6:00pm EST

What you'll do:

  • Maintain an assigned weekly appointment schedule year-round
  • Engage in prescheduled 1:1 and 1:many video and conferences with undergraduate and graduate students to support the growth of transferable academic and content-related skills and foster student success
  • Build, revise, and facilitate group video conferencing sessions to support learning and skill building in high-need content areas (eg, math or writing) at the undergraduate and graduate levels
  • Monitor progress with relationship-based students, setting long- and short-term skill-development goals
  • Build resources for SNHU's Academic Resource Center based on student demand in a skill area, using accessibility and SNHU brand awareness; act as Subject Matter Expert in creation of videos, static handouts, workshops, online interactives in collaboration with UX and Asset management team members
  • Develop and apply understanding of university supports and resources; exhibit institutional awareness to every student
  • Positively impact retention and success of online students by providing exceptional student support and fostering engaging learning experiences.
  • Maintain confidentiality of all student records and information shared during sessions.
  • Conduct your work shifts in a dedicated, quiet environment with reliable internet access.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

  • Bachelor's degree and 2+ years' experience facilitating adult learning experiences 1:1 or in groups.
  • Current expertise in a high-need content area such as general math, business, IT/STEM.
  • Quiet work environment with reliable hard-wired internet access.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Comfort learning new skills and adapting to evolving tools and technologies.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Excel and other Microsoft Office applications.
  • Night and weekend availability based on business needs.

Compensation

The hourly pay range for this position is $17.45 - $27.92. Actual offer will be based on skills, qualifications, experience and internal equity, in addition to relevant business considerations. We expect this position to be hired in the following target hiring range $19.28 - $26.08.
