A Brief Overview
The US LBM Lead Software Engineer – Application Development (Logistics and Dispatch) will provide technical leadership while working hands-on alongside software engineers building and supporting applications, APIs, integrations, and technology solutions that power US LBM's logistics, dispatch, transportation, and delivery operations. This role is centered around the systems that help move products efficiently from our locations to customers. The Engineering Lead will support and improve technology related to routing, dispatch, delivery scheduling, fleet and carrier workflows, shipment execution, proof of delivery, exception handling, and last-mile delivery. The role will work closely with Product Managers, Architects, Operations, and business leaders to make sure the technology being built solves real transportation and delivery challenges across the business. The ideal candidate will bring strong full-stack engineering experience along with meaningful logistics and dispatch 
domain knowledge. They should be comfortable leading technical decisions, mentoring engineers, and helping turn complex operational needs into scalable, reliable solutions that improve delivery performance and support US LBM's continued modernization.


What you will do

  • Design, develop, test, deploy, and support applications, APIs, and integrations supporting logistics, dispatch, transportation, and delivery operations.

  • Remain hands-on in complex development while providing technical leadership, mentoring, code reviews, and design guidance to other engineers.

  • Partner with Product Managers, Architects, Operations, and business stakeholders to translate logistics and delivery priorities into scalable technical solutions.

  • Apply logistics and dispatch expertise across transportation management, routing, scheduling, fleet operations, carrier management, shipment execution, proof of delivery, exception management, and last-mile delivery.

  • Lead technical design and architecture decisions to ensure solutions are scalable, secure, reliable, and support high-volume operational environments.

  • Guide engineering delivery by helping manage priorities, technical risks, dependencies, and production readiness across logistics initiatives.

  • Build reusable engineering patterns, APIs, integration approaches, CI/CD pipelines, and development standards that can be used across delivery and transportation platforms.

  • Improve logistics and dispatch processes through automation, AI, and modern application design.

  • Champion AI-assisted development including specification-driven development, automated testing, AI code review, and intelligent workflows.

  • Support integrations between logistics applications and ERP, order management, warehouse, customer, carrier, and third-party systems.

  • Troubleshoot complex production issues involving routing, shipment execution, integrations, APIs, data, and distributed systems while maintaining operational reliability and data integrity.

  • Work closely with business and operations teams to understand real-world delivery workflows and make sure technology solutions create measurable business value.

Education Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree or Master's Degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent relevant professional experience.


Experience Qualifications

  • 5+ years developing and delivering custom web, mobile, enterprise, or integration solutions.

  • 4+ years of full-stack development experience.

  • Demonstrated technical leadership through mentoring, code reviews, design guidance, architecture decisions, and delivery ownership.

  • Strong hands-on experience developing applications within Microsoft Azure.

  • Experience developing technology solutions supporting logistics, transportation, dispatch, fleet operations, routing, shipment execution, carrier management, delivery scheduling, proof of delivery, or last-mile operations.

  • Experience with transportation management systems (TMS), delivery platforms, dispatch applications, route planning tools, or related operational systems is strongly preferred.

  • Experience integrating logistics or delivery applications with ERP, warehouse management, order management, carrier, or third-party systems.

  • Experience partnering with Product Managers, Architects, Operations leaders, and business stakeholders.

  • Experience with version control, automated testing, and CI/CD pipelines.

Skills and Abilities

  • Advanced proficiency developing applications and serverless REST APIs using C#/.NET within Microsoft Azure.

  • Strong expertise with SQL, relational databases, and NoSQL databases.

  • Strong understanding of API design, integrations, distributed systems, event-driven architecture, and modern application architecture.

  • Working knowledge of Infrastructure as Code and CI/CD tools including Terraform, GitHub, and Azure DevOps.

  • Understanding of containerization and orchestration tools such as Docker and Kubernetes.

  • Strong understanding of logistics and transportation processes and technologies supporting routing, dispatch, fleet operations, shipment tracking, carrier integration, scheduling, proof of delivery, delivery exceptions, and last mile execution.

  • Ability to understand how logistics technology connects with inventory, warehouse, order management, ERP, and customer-facing systems.

  • Ability to communicate technical decisions, risks, and tradeoffs to technical and non-technical stakeholders.

  • Ability to partner with Product Managers and business leaders to connect engineering priorities with measurable operational and business outcomes.

  • Experience with or strong interest in AI-assisted software development and AI-first engineering practices.

  • Ability to balance hands-on engineering with technical leadership, delivery oversight, and stakeholder engagement.

Travel Expectations

  • Approximately 20% - dependent on business needs.
