Job description

We are sharing a specialised part-time consulting opportunity for experienced lifecycle, CRM, and retention marketing professionals with hands-on expertise in customer communications, contact strategy, campaign orchestration, deliverability, list health, and lifecycle optimisation.

This role focuses on designing and evaluating realistic lifecycle marketing environments that reproduce the systems, data, workflows, and decisions encountered in professional marketing organisations. Selected experts will create authentic scenarios, define expected outcomes, review completed work, and establish standards that distinguish strong lifecycle marketing judgement from plausible but incorrect approaches.

Key Responsibilities

Lifecycle Marketing Scenario Design

  • Develop realistic tasks based on lifecycle or CRM marketing work you have personally performed
  • Define the underlying issue and the decision a strong practitioner should reach
  • Create scenarios involving incomplete, conflicting, or messy marketing information
  • Ensure tasks require genuine professional judgement rather than simple information retrieval
  • Design challenges that reflect real-world customer lifecycle and retention workflows

Customer Journey & Contact Strategy

  • Develop and evaluate customer contact strategies across different lifecycle stages
  • Assess channel, cadence, audience, and messaging decisions
  • Review customer journey logic and communication sequencing
  • Identify gaps, unnecessary contact, or missed opportunities
  • Evaluate whether proposed strategies appropriately support customer and business objectives

Milestone & Triggered Campaigns

  • Design scenarios involving onboarding, activation, retention, re-engagement, and other milestone campaigns
  • Evaluate campaign timing, targeting, sequencing, and trigger logic
  • Review whether customer communications reflect appropriate lifecycle context
  • Identify broken or ineffective journey logic
  • Assess proposed campaign approaches for practical effectiveness

CRM & Retention Marketing

  • Evaluate CRM programmes designed to improve customer engagement and retention
  • Review segmentation, targeting, personalisation, and campaign strategy
  • Assess whether proposed actions are supported by available customer and behavioural data
  • Identify weak assumptions or incomplete recommendations
  • Apply hands-on judgement from owning CRM or retention programmes

Deliverability & List Health

  • Develop and evaluate scenarios involving email deliverability and audience quality
  • Review list health, engagement, suppression, and sending practices
  • Identify issues affecting deliverability or campaign performance
  • Assess appropriate remediation and prioritisation decisions
  • Evaluate trade-offs between reach, engagement, and sender reputation

Lifecycle Portfolio Optimisation

  • Review portfolios of lifecycle campaigns and automated programmes
  • Assess campaign overlap, incremental value, prioritisation, and customer impact
  • Identify redundant, underperforming, or conflicting communications
  • Evaluate opportunities to improve programme performance
  • Apply commercial judgement to lifecycle investment and optimisation decisions

Marketing Systems & Data

  • Work with simulated environments containing realistic email, storage, CRM, project management, social media management, web analytics, SEO/AEO, advertising, CMS, product analytics, and customer-support information
  • Specify the documents, dashboards, personas, and tool states required for authentic lifecycle scenarios
  • Reconcile information across multiple marketing systems
  • Evaluate whether recommendations appropriately reflect available customer and performance data
  • Identify missed signals, inconsistencies, or workflow failures

CRM, ESP & Product Analytics

  • Work with workflows modelled on an email service provider, CRM such as Salesforce, and product analytics platforms such as Amplitude
  • Review campaign, contact, customer, and behavioural information
  • Assess segmentation, journey logic, and campaign performance
  • Identify discrepancies across systems or data sources
  • Evaluate whether proposed actions reflect appropriate lifecycle insights

Reference Answers & Evaluation Criteria

  • Write or review reference solutions for lifecycle marketing scenarios
  • Define clear criteria separating strong professional responses from plausible but incorrect ones
  • Establish standards for diagnosis, prioritisation, execution, QA, and lifecycle judgement
  • Explain why particular decisions are stronger or weaker
  • Ensure evaluation criteria reflect realistic CRM and retention marketing practice

Quality Review & Evaluation

  • Review completed scenarios and evaluate proposed lifecycle decisions
  • Assess diagnostic reasoning, prioritisation, trade-offs, planning, execution, and reporting
  • Evaluate multi-step work spanning several marketing tools
  • Identify missed issues, incorrect interpretations, or weak recommendations
  • Provide clear written reasoning supporting evaluation decisions

Ideal Profile

  • Hands-on professional experience in lifecycle marketing, CRM marketing, or retention marketing
  • Experience personally owning customer communication programmes and their incremental performance, rather than solely managing teams responsible for execution
  • Strong understanding of contact strategy, triggered campaigns, customer journeys, deliverability, list health, and retention
  • Comfortable working with an ESP
  • Experience with a CRM such as Salesforce
  • Comfortable using product analytics platforms such as Amplitude
  • Strong ability to diagnose lifecycle performance issues across interconnected tools and data sources
  • Clear written reasoning and ability to explain why a marketing decision is effective or ineffective
  • Prior experience developing AI training environments, reinforcement-learning environments, or simulated business case studies is strongly preferred
  • Rubric Academy or Rubric Bootcamp certification is strongly preferred
  • Comfortable working independently with structured evaluation frameworks and project guidelines

Engagement Details

  • Part-time independent contractor engagement
  • Fully remote
  • Flexible scheduling based on project requirements
  • Compensation: $50–$90/hour
  • Work focuses on CRM, lifecycle and retention marketing, customer journeys, campaign strategy, scenario design, and expert evaluation
  • Applicants complete a short multiple-choice knowledge assessment specific to lifecycle marketing before review
  • Projects may be extended, shortened, or concluded based on project needs and performance
  • Work must be completed without using confidential or proprietary information belonging to any employer, client, institution, or other third party
  • H1-B and STEM OPT support is unavailable for this engagement
