Who We Are

About TSS Advisors

Founded in 1986, TSS has grown to become the largest professional advisory firm headquartered in New Hampshire. With over 90 employees dedicated to the broad range of clients and mix of services seldom seen in a local firm, we have experience and expertise to assist our clients in meeting their goals, whether individuals or business entities, regardless of their size or industry.

At TSS, we recognize that professionals today need to be business consultants, advisors, planners and strategists. We need to be knowledgeable not only in accounting and tax law, but also in business analysis and valuation, estate planning, employee benefit administration and much more.

Over the last few years, we have acknowledged and embraced the fact that the accounting profession and industry is evolving. With this, we are taking our commitment to excellence to a new level by partnering with Ascend. This will accelerate our strategic growth model by providing access to new resources and additional partnership opportunities.

About Ascend

At Ascend, we understand the struggles that accounting & finance professionals face in traditional public accounting firms - from rigid hierarchies, overwhelming workloads, and the elusive work-life balance. It’s time for a transformative change. We believe your ambition should not be constrained by outdated practices or opaque career paths. Here, you're not just a number; you’re a valued member of a community that supports & celebrates your professional & personal fulfillment. Our mission is to transform the public accounting experience into one where work-life harmony is a reality, and where your career advancement is supported by a nurturing network and comprehensive resources.

Ascend empowers entrepreneurial CPAs to reach their goals with an innovative growth model that brings our partner firms into the new age. Backed by private equity from people-focused Alpine Investors, Ascend is building a modern platform for regional accounting firms that enables them to stay independent while having access to resources of a large firm. These resources include growth capital, robust talent acquisition, best-of-breed technology, a catalytic leadership system, shared back-office services, and modernized equity incentives.

Founded in January 2023, Ascend has already attained revenues sufficient to qualify as a Top 30 U.S. accounting firm. Explore Ascend, where your career soars without sacrificing your quality of life.

The Role

We’re looking for a talented and motivated Client Accountant to lead day-to-day delivery in our client accounting practice. TSS serves clients in the automotive retail, construction, manufacturing, distribution, and other for-profit industries, and many of them rely on us as their accounting department — closing their books, producing their financial statements, and giving their owners a clear read on the business.

This is a hands-on supervisory role. You will own a portfolio of client relationships, review the work of the accountants supporting them, and act as the escalation point when something does not tie out. Our ideal candidate is someone who is equally comfortable in the general ledger and in front of a business owner, and who wants to shape how a growing practice runs rather than just work inside it.

Responsibilities

  • Own the monthly and quarterly close for a portfolio of clients, including bank and credit card reconciliations, accruals, fixed assets, and journal entries
  • Prepare and review compiled financial statements and management reporting packages
  • Review payroll processing, sales and use tax filings, and 1099 reporting prepared by the team
  • Serve as the primary day-to-day contact for client owners, controllers, and office staff
  • Lead onboarding for new client accounting engagements, including chart of accounts design, software conversion, and documentation of recurring procedures
  • Coordinate with the tax team to deliver clean year-end books and supporting workpapers
  • Identify and implement process and technology improvements that reduce manual work across the client base

Requirements

  • 5+ years of client accounting, bookkeeping, or outsourced accounting experience, including work in a public accounting or multi-client environment
  • Prior experience supervising, reviewing, or training accounting staff is a plus
  • Working knowledge of GAAP as applied to closely held businesses
  • Proficiency with QuickBooks Online and Excel
  • Strong attention to detail and the judgment to know when something needs escalation
  • Integrity within a professional environment

Preferences

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or related field
  • QuickBooks Online ProAdvisor certification
  • Experience with CCH Axcess and cloud accounting workflow tools
  • Experience with payroll platforms and multi-state sales tax compliance
  • Active CPA or CMA

Location

At TSS, we’ve designed a flexible work structure that enables both teamwork and independence, enhancing our employees’ work experience while promoting personal well-being.
