The Office of Human Subjects Research is seeking an IRB Coordinator to be part of a team that processes human subjects research protocols overseen by the Institutional Review Boards (IRB). The IRB Coordinator is responsible for providing administrative support and coordination for the Johns Hopkins IRBs.

Specific Duties & Responsibilities

  • Demonstrate knowledge-based understanding of the complete IRB review process.
  • Work with minimum supervision to provide administrative support and advice regarding human subjects research applications submitted to the IRB.
  • Determine level of review appropriate for research submissions.
  • Advise and assist investigators and their staff regarding submission of applications in accordance with institutional policy, federal, state, and local regulations governing human subjects research.
  • Formulate agenda materials and tracks components of the review process, including communication with other offices and committees.
  • Record IRB meeting minutes in keeping with current policies and procedures.
  • Independently prepare appropriate correspondence to document the IRB’s decision regarding the review of human subjects research applications.
  • Maintain a working knowledge of IRB procedures, guidelines and policies.
  • Conduct administrative and regulatory review of designated human subjects research application submissions as determined to be appropriate for this role.
  • Other duties as assigned.


Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree.
  • Additional education may substitute for required experience, and additional related experience may substitute for required education beyond a high school diploma/graduation equivalent, to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula.


Preferred Qualifications
  • One year of human subject research compliance and/or research administration experience is preferred.

Starting Salary Range: $21.80 - $37.80 HRLY ($47,250 budgeted; Commensurate w/exp.)
