Job description

Do you want to build an engineering function that makes a visible difference on the factory floor every single day? Then we look forward to hearing from you!

We are facing an exciting future with considerable growth and demanding changes, as we deliver advanced technologies and mission critical solutions for the defense and aerospace industry. Our systems provide security for people on land, at sea and in the air. Therefore, we are looking for a Production Engineering Manager to become part of this journey and contribute to our overall purpose – securing people through advanced technology.

Your role in our team

We have established a new Manufacturing Engineering organization, and we are now looking for a Manager to lead Production Engineering — one of three functions in the new organization. This is a role for someone who wants to build something, not just run it.

As our new Manager of Production Engineering, you will lead a team of 12–15 engineers responsible for the technical integrity, performance and continuous improvement of our manufacturing processes. You and your team will apply Lean principles to improve yield and cycle time, eliminate waste and create robust and efficient manufacturing processes.

You will report to the Director of Manufacturing Engineering and work closely with the managers of Production, Product Engineering and Digital Manufacturing. Together with Product Engineering and Digital Manufacturing, your team forms the engineering capability that sits directly with production.

Success in this role is not only about process performance. It is about building a capable, engaged and confident engineering team that increasingly takes ownership and makes decisions independently.

How you will make a meaningful contribution

Your key responsibilities include:

    • Building the competence framework that defines what each engineer can decide independently, and extending their mandate as competence grows
    • Ensuring customer requirements are correctly analyzed and implemented in production in accordance with our internal processes
    • Driving First Pass Yield and process performance through structured problem solving, root cause analysis and improvement projects
    • Building a proactive engineering culture where process drift is identified and corrected before it affects quality or performance
    • Allocating and protecting your engineers' capacity across daily production, improvement work and new product introduction

What you are stepping into

Terma Aerostructures is a complex business. We work under AS9100 and NADCAP accreditations and to customer specifications that leave little room for interpretation, and compliance is part of daily work rather than something we deal with at audit time.

It takes time to understand how it all fits together — the programmes, the qualified processes, the specifications and the way they flow down to the floor. We expect you to spend your first months learning it. Aerospace production requires a certain mindset – integrity, precision, patience with documentation and the discipline to follow a requirement you did not write.

You will have real influence on how the function is built. The structure is set and the mandate is documented, and the interfaces to the rest of the organization are agreed in principle — but they still need to be formalized, and you will be part of that work. What is not yet decided is how the team develops from here, and that will largely be yours to shape.

Bring your world class expertise into play

We are looking for someone who is genuinely interested in developing people, not only in solving technical problems. Your professional background and experience may include:

    • Technical education in engineering or science, e.g. mechanical, manufacturing, process or materials engineering
    • Experience from a manufacturing environment, ideally in a regulated industry
    • People leadership experience, or demonstrable readiness to take it on
    • Understanding of process control, capability, PFMEA, control plans and change management
    • Strong knowledge of Lean, structured problem solving and continuous improvement; Green Belt or Black Belt is an advantage
    • Experience with composites or aerospace manufacturing is valuable, though not a requirement

As a person, you can hold a line under pressure without making it a conflict. You can tell the difference between a decision that belongs on the floor and one that must be escalated, and you can teach that distinction to others. You communicate clearly with operators and specialists alike, and you are comfortable being visible in production rather than at your desk.
