Job description

Ready to Start Your Career in Corporate Governance?

Are you organised, detail-focused, and interested in how businesses are governed behind the scenes?

This is an exciting opportunity to gain practical experience in company secretarial work, corporate governance, and regulatory compliance. As a Company Secretarial Intern, you will work closely with the Assistant Company Secretary and support important governance processes across the Group and its operating companies.

You will gain hands-on exposure to board and committee administration, statutory records, regulatory deadlines, governance documents, and stakeholder coordination. This is a supportive learning role where you will build valuable professional skills while contributing to work that helps the organisation remain compliant, organised, and well governed.

What You’ll Get Involved In

Supporting Governance and Compliance

You will:

  • Assist with maintaining statutory registers, company records, and regulatory filings.
  • Help monitor important statutory and regulatory deadlines, including annual returns and other filing requirements.
  • Flag upcoming deadlines and requirements to the Assistant Company Secretary.
  • Support the maintenance of governance policies and procedures.
  • Help ensure company information and governance records remain accurate and up to date.

Bringing Board and Committee Meetings Together

You will:

  • Help schedule board and committee meetings and coordinate diaries.
  • Assist with preparing and circulating agendas, meeting packs, minutes, and resolutions.
  • Track actions agreed during meetings and follow up with the relevant stakeholders.
  • Help ensure board and committee documentation is properly organised and available when needed.

Keeping Important Documentation in Order

You will:

  • Assist with preparing and formatting corporate governance documents.
  • Maintain accurate physical and electronic records.
  • Support basic drafting activities, such as routine resolutions and letters, using approved templates.
  • Check documents carefully before they are submitted for review.
  • Help create an organised and reliable governance filing environment.

Coordinating With Stakeholders

You will:

  • Respond to routine administrative queries from operating companies.
  • Escalate more complex or substantive matters to the Assistant Company Secretary.
  • Assist with coordinating information requests involving local legal counsel and company secretarial advisers.
  • Build professional relationships with internal and external stakeholders.

Learning Through Real Work

You will also:

  • Provide general administrative support to the Assistant Company Secretary.
  • Assist with additional governance-related tasks and projects.
  • Learn how a company secretarial function operates within a group environment.
  • Build your capability and confidence through guidance, feedback, and practical experience.

What We’re Looking For

You may be a great fit if you have:

  • A university degree in law, business, finance, governance, or a related field, or you are currently working towards one.
  • Between one and three years of experience in company secretarial, legal, compliance, or governance support.
  • A basic understanding of corporate governance and company secretarial practices.
  • Confidence working with documents, records, and administrative processes.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
  • Good written English and the ability to follow templates and drafting conventions accurately.

Experience in a group or multi-jurisdictional environment would be beneficial, but it is not required. A recognised company secretarial qualification is also not essential. However, enrolment in, or a willingness to pursue, a qualification such as ICSA/CGI or an equivalent would be an advantage.

The Qualities That Will Help You Succeed

We are looking for someone who is:

  • Highly organised: You can manage different tasks and keep track of important deadlines.
  • Detail-focused: You take care when preparing documents and maintaining records.
  • Reliable: You follow instructions, complete tasks accurately, and know when to ask for guidance.
  • Professional: You communicate clearly and respectfully with different stakeholders.
  • Curious and willing to learn: You are open to feedback and motivated to grow your knowledge.
  • Comfortable working as part of a team: You understand that strong governance depends on collaboration and clear communication.

Why This Opportunity Is Worth Exploring

This is more than an opportunity to complete administrative tasks. It is a chance to understand how boards, governance structures, compliance processes, and company records support the operation of a business.

The role is initially offered as a 12-month fixed-term contract during a period of team transition. Depending on individual performance and business requirements, there may be an opportunity to move into a permanent role within the Group’s company secretarial function. The intern will work under the guidance of the Assistant Company Secretary and will not hold independent signing, filing, or line-management authority.
