Rooted in the healing ministry of Jesus and inspired by the walking Sisters of Mercy, Managers of CPE are essential in advancing Mercy CPE across our multistate, mission-driven ministry and through our community based Virtual CPE model. Working under the direction of the Director of CPE and in collaboration with Certified Educators, Managers of CPE provide operational leadership within their program focus, educate and supervise CPE students, and maintain Mercy CPE Accreditation in adherence to ACPE standards. The Manager of CPE works collaboratively with Mission and Spiritual Care leaders within the facilities on system-wide initiatives, and with the local ministerial community to ensure excellence in educational offerings. Managers of CPE reflect Mercy’s mission, values, and charisms, strengthening a modern spiritual care approach that honors our tradition while expanding the reach of CPE and spiritual care through emerging innovations.

Job Overview

The Manager of Clinical Pastoral Education provides leadership and oversight for Mercy's ACPE-accredited Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE) programs. This role is responsible for maintaining accreditation standards, developing curriculum, supervising students, and partnering with Spiritual Care, Mission, and ministry leaders across the organization.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage ACPE-accredited CPE programs.
  • Ensure compliance with ACPE accreditation standards and requirements.
  • Develop and teach curriculum for Level I, Level II, and Certified Educator Candidate (CEC) programs.
  • Provide clinical supervision and educational support to CPE students.
  • Participate in student recruitment, admissions, interviews, and evaluations.
  • Collaborate with Spiritual Care leaders, Mission leaders, and chaplain colleagues.
  • Maintain required accreditation records, documentation, and reporting.
  • Support the formation and development of future Mercy chaplains and spiritual care professionals.

Minimum Qualifications

Education

  • Graduate Theological Degree
  • Completion of four (4) units of Clinical Pastoral Education

Experience

  • Two or more years as an ACPE Certified Educator Candidate

Certification

  • Certified Educator, National Faculty Eligible through ACPE
  • Board Certified Eligible through a recognized chaplain certification organization

Preferred Qualifications

  • Five or more years as an ACPE Certified Educator
  • ACPE Certified Educator, National Faculty
  • Board Certified Chaplain

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Knowledge of ACPE accreditation standards and educational best practices
  • Curriculum development and classroom facilitation skills
  • Strong leadership, coaching, and mentoring abilities
  • Ability to collaborate across departments and ministries
  • Understanding of spiritual care, theology, and Catholic identity in healthcare
  • Excellent organizational and communication skills
  • Proficiency with virtual learning and educational technology
