Job Summary: The Senior Fleet Safety Manager is responsible for leading and advancing a proactive, behavior-based culture across all fleet operations. This role focuses on preventing incidents, reducing risk exposure, and protecting drivers, the public, and company assets through data-driven insights, coaching, and continuous improvement.

 

Responsibilities:
  • Safety Strategy & Leadership
    • Implement and manage fleet safety programs focused on incident prevention and risk reduction.
    • Promote a safety-first culture grounded in accountability, engagement, and continuous improvement.
    • Collaborate with operations supervisors and managers to embed safety into daily decision-making.
    • Serve as a visible safety leader, supporting supervisory coaching.
  • Risk Identification & Mitigation
    • Analyze incident trends, telematics data, and near-miss reporting to proactively identify high-risk behaviors.
    • Design and implement targeted interventions to address key risk drivers (e.g.,speeding, distraction, fatigue).
    • Conduct root cause analyses for incidents with a focus on system and behavior improvements.
  • Behavior-Based Safety & Coaching
    • Build and manage driver coaching programs that emphasize positive reinforcement and skill development.
    • Train leaders and supervisors to effectively coach safe driving behaviors.
    • Establish metrics and routines to measure behavior change over time.
  • Fleet Safety Programs
    • Lead the development and implementation of programs such as:
      • Defensive driving initiatives
      • Fatigue risk management
      • Driver onboarding and training, ongoing training
      • In-cab technology utilization (dash cams, telematics)
      • Continuously evaluate program effectiveness and evolve strategies based on data.
  • Technology & Data Utilization
    • Leverage telematics, video analytics, and other safety technologies to gain insights into driver performance.
    • Translate data into actionable safety improvements and clear messaging for stakeholders.
    • Drive adoption and engagement with safety technologies.
  • Incident Prevention & Response
    • Lead and manage incident review processes focused on learning and prevention.
    • Manage the incident claims process partnering with internal and external parties.
    • Track repair/replacement costs due to theft and costs associated with repair of vehicles involved in incidents including details of make, model, region, replacement cost, and date of loss.
    • Identify systemic improvements from incidents and near misses.
    • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to implement corrective actions.
  • Culture & Engagement
    • Develop campaigns and initiatives that promote safety awareness and engagement at all levels.
    • Lead safety communications that resonate with drivers and field teams.
    • Recognize and reward safe behaviors and performance.
  • Miscellaneous
    • All other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree in safety, transportation, or related field preferred.
  • 7–10+ years of experience in safety, fleet safety, transportation safety, or risk management.
  • Experience using telematics, dash cams, or fleet safety technologies.
  • Ability to influence without authority and drive culture change across dispersed teams.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to translate data into actionable insights.
