Job description

BA Global Talent is looking for a qualified professional based in LATAM or the Caribbean to join a dynamic team as a Legal Assistant. You will support a U.S.-based law firm focused on Social Security disability matters, helping manage case documentation, client communication, agency follow-up, and a high volume of deadline-driven case tasks.

You would be joining a fantastic group of people who not only demonstrate their belief in BA and its mission but also deliver fantastic results. If you are a self-starter, learn quickly, and can thrive in a fast-paced environment with shifting priorities, then this is the role for you! Apply now for an opportunity to start or further your career with a young, fast-growing company that values its front line.

Responsibilities:

• Manage a high volume of Social Security disability case tasks, deadlines, and priorities, adjusting quickly when urgent matters arise.

• Review client files, medical and legal documents, forms, and records; identify key facts, missing information, and maintain accurate case notes.

• Communicate empathetically with clients who may be experiencing serious physical or mental health challenges, including asking detailed or sensitive follow-up questions when necessary.

• Help de-escalate difficult client interactions and, after appropriate training, explain case processes, expectations, updates, and difficult outcomes clearly and professionally.

• Proactively follow up with Social Security Administration offices and other parties to obtain records, information, or clarification needed to move cases forward.

• Coordinate closely with attorneys and team members regarding case changes, upcoming hearings, urgent developments, and next steps.

• Research questions using client documentation, Social Security resources, and approved internal guidance; ask clarifying questions rather than make assumptions.

• Participate actively in training and shadowing opportunities to build knowledge of Social Security disability processes and client communication practices.

Requirements:

• Candidates must be based in LATAM or the Caribbean.

• Must own a Windows-based computer; Mac devices are not supported for this role.

Completed college education is required; the field of study is flexible. A degree in Law, Legal Studies, Paralegal Studies, or a related field is considered a plus.

• 2+ years of consistent recent professional work experience, preferably in legal services, disability claims, insurance, healthcare, or case management.

• Excellent verbal and written English communication skills.

• Exceptional reading comprehension, attention to detail, and accuracy when working with forms, records, medical information, and deadlines.

• Strong critical-thinking, problem-solving, curiosity, and resourcefulness; able to locate answers, ask questions, and learn on the fly.

• Ability to thrive in a high-volume, task-driven, deadline-driven environment and switch priorities calmly when urgent matters arise.

• Empathy, emotional stamina, professionalism, and comfort handling sensitive, personal, or difficult conversations with clients.

• Strong teamwork, follow-through, integrity, and a willingness to step in and support colleagues when needed.

• Candidates must accurately represent the skills, experience, education, and professional credentials listed on their resume and be prepared to provide real-world examples during the interview process.

Nice to have:

• Understanding of medical terminology and experience reviewing medical or legal documentation.

• Previous exposure to Social Security disability matters or SSA processes.
