Job description

Full Stack Developer

Summary

The Full Stack Developer is a growth-track engineer who writes and owns code across the full stack and is preparing to accelerate toward Tech Lead readiness. You will work on Traverse, a flagship SaaS product for child welfare and HHS case managers, on a small, flat, high-autonomy team where end-to-end ownership and engineering quality matter.

This role requires daily, habitual use of agentic AI tooling and strong test-first habits. The team expects consistent full-stack delivery across backend, frontend, and database layers and a proactive, collaborative approach to how the team builds software.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver features end-to-end: database schema and API design through UI implementation, automated testing, and deployment.
  • Pick up and complete work independently, expected within the first two weeks.
  • Write and maintain unit, integration, and end-to-end tests as part of the definition of done.
  • Participate actively in code review as both contributor and recipient, providing direct, actionable feedback.
  • Coach and support junior developers through pairing and review.
  • Contribute to architectural and design conversations with awareness of tradeoffs.
  • Operate and tolerate independent troubleshooting and incident response.
  • Proactively seek and own the next pieces of work without waiting to be assigned.
  • Partner with QA to improve processes and shared quality standards.
  • Adopt and improve agentic engineering workflows as they evolve on the team.

Requirements

  • 4–5 years of professional software engineering experience.
  • Full-stack capability across all layers of the stack — front end, back end, database, CI/CD
  • AI-First Engineering Mindset: Proven trajectory of daily, high-impact AI-assisted development using agentic tools (e.g., Cursor, Claude Code, GitHub Copilot) prioritized over raw years of experience.
  • Full-Stack Proficiency: Solid, end-to-end expertise across C# (.NET) for backend, and frontend JavaScript frameworks (strongly preferred)
  • Engineering fundamentals: test-first development (tests before implementation), clean code, code quality, consistent conventions
  • Database & Data Layer Mastery: Strong proficiency in database design and management, with direct experience in PostgreSQL (strongly preferred)
  • Ability to contribute meaningfully to architecture and system design conversations.

Flexible / Broader Lens

  • Specific Ruby on Rails or AWS experience is a plus but not a dealbreaker — leader and engineer capability comes first, stack specifics second
  • At this level, the candidate should navigate across languages and frameworks with relative ease
  • React/TypeScript, and PostgreSQL is a strong advantage
  • AI tool preference is agnostic — the specific tool does not matter as long as they work fluently with AI in their daily practice.

Engagement & Logistics

  • Engagement Length:1 year or more
  • Time Zone: EST - 08.00 am to 5.00 pm.
  • Overtime Required: No
  • Equipment: BYOD (Bring Your Own Device)
