The Green Technology Group, LLC (TGTG) is seeking a skilled Technical Writer/Editor, with a strong background in strategic communications to support our Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) Office of Information and Technology (OIT) customer. The candidate must be a self-starter who can quickly understand new assignments, conduct research, provide relevant content, offer solutions, and is adaptable. A baseline understanding of IT and experience with Organizational Change Management would be preferred. The environment is dynamic, and the client needs are often evolving. Flexibility and forward-thinking views are important for success.

Job Description

Essential Duties & Responsibilities 

 

Responsibilities:

  • Conducts research for initiatives and provides relevant content for a variety of stakeholders including the CIO, CTO, and engineering teams across the IT organization.
  • Distills complex topics into plain language for a variety of audiences/stakeholders.
  • Creates strategic UX copy across various platforms that is compelling, easy to understand and concise.
  • Collaborates with executive teams and IT groups to create a framework and process for continuously improving and testing new content.
  • Repurposes content for a variety of audiences/stakeholders and uses.
  • Performs quality control of content.
  • Translates complex data into user-friendly text for print and electronic publications, such as SharePoint, portals, websites, and podcasts.
  • Selects or recommends use of layouts, graphics, drawings, tables, exhibits, illustrations, charts, or storyboards to amplify or clarify publications objectives.
  • Edits narrative and graphic products to identify and correct grammatical formatting and logic errors and to identify logical inconsistencies that will require author attention.

Establishes processes and materials to build knowledge sharing based on how information flows from products/product line managers and across the organization.

 

Required Skills & Experience 

  • Must have experience in editing narrative and graphic products to identify and correct grammatical formatting and logic errors and to identify logical inconsistencies that will require author attention.
  • Must have experience in the application a variety of word processing, spreadsheet, graphics, and scheduling tools.
  • Must have experience in meeting with authors and other team representatives to review documents, compile inputs/corrections, resolve incompatible comments, and provide final publishable documentation. 
  • Must have experience in explaining in simple language scientific and technical ideas that are difficult for the average reader to understand.
  • Demonstrated ability to distill complex research into short, compelling narratives
  • Experience in collaborating with authors and other team representatives to review documents, compile inputs/corrections, resolve incompatible comments, and provide final publishable documentation
  • Proven experience in explaining in simple language scientific and technical ideas that are difficult for the average reader to understand
  • A proven track record in creating, editing, or improving briefings and visual materials (charts, graphs, PowerPoint presentations, informational graphics)
  • Advanced writing and editing skills
  • A firm grasp of the challenges of communicating in the various channels available today
  • Flexibility, ingenuity, creativity, diplomacy, and a willingness to learn and adapt
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office products including Word, PowerPoint, MS Teams, or other editing and GUI editing software.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a Tier II Moderate Risk Background Investigation.
  • Legal authorization to work in the U.S.

Years of Professional Experience: 

Bachelors in computer science, electronics engineering or other engineering or technical discipline is required (8 years of additional relevant experience may be substituted for education).
