Job description

Rhino + Jetty is making housing more affordable and accessible for millions of renters each year. We're the market-leading rental housing platform building simpler, more accessible ways for people to move into homes — and for property managers to lease with confidence.

Our technology removes friction from the move-in process, lowers upfront costs for renters, and helps property managers make faster, more accurate decisions. We support a network of 3 million rental units nationwide and work with 47 of the NMHC Top 100 property owners, including Greystar, Brookfield, Asset Living, UDR, and more.

We pioneered security deposit insurance and continue to push the industry forward with a growing suite of products — from deposit management to lease guarantees and loss-of-employment protection. We're growing quickly, tackling real problems at scale, and building technology that's changing how renting works.

About the role:

The Director of Finance & Accounting will oversee and lead a team to bring operational rigor to Rhino + Jetty’s Finance and Accounting organization — spanning corporate finance, FP&A, strategic finance, accounting, tax, and treasury — while supporting and refining our overall strategic planning to drive opportunities for growth. This role combines strategic financial leadership with hands-on ownership of accounting operations and controllership, and will manage the corporate finance, FP&A, and strategic finance functions while building and leading our Accounting team.

What you’ll do:

Strategic & Corporate Finance

  • Assume a leadership position across corporate finance, FP&A, and strategic finance
  • Partner and work collaboratively as a trusted advisor with the leadership team and Board of Directors on strategic initiatives, budgeting & forecasting, reporting, and operational modeling
  • Drive proactive capital planning and be responsible for driving equity, debt, and risk capital transactions, and support M&A efforts with insightful analysis and due diligence
  • Build and maintain periodic financial plans that align with the company's plan for growth and expansion
  • Provide financial and operational metrics and analytics to stakeholders including investors, the Board of Directors, employees, and management, and support proactive relations with all
  • Drive preparation and presentation of monthly financial reports to department leads, including monthly P&L, cash flow, and actuals vs. budget
  • Work closely with cross-functional department leads to measure and refine operational effectiveness in areas such as risk and reinsurance agreements and metrics, partnership deals and pipeline opportunities, and trade-off/ROI ad-hoc analysis with the Product team

Accounting & Controllership

  • Own the Tax function and have responsibility for various Treasury-related items
  • Oversee the monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes, ensuring Rhino's reporting and financial statements comply with US GAAP
  • Maintain and document Rhino's accounting policies and procedures while continuously improving accounting methodology and processes to align with business changes
  • Own Rhino's external auditor relationship and annual audit process, inclusive of collaboration with external tax preparers and technical accounting resources
  • Ensure effective accounting and internal controls, including accounting software and supporting databases
  • Collaborate with other business stakeholders to operationalize processes impacting Accounting in a fast-paced, dynamic environment

Team Leadership

  • Recruit, direct, and organize the work of a high-performing Finance & Accounting team, ensuring reports receive appropriate training, career development, and performance management
  • Support executive leadership and the Board in executing special projects

What you’ll bring:

  • 10+ years of combined finance and accounting experience with proven career progression, including 5+ years hands-on experience in a financial management and/or accounting operations function in a growth company
  • Bachelor's degree or higher in accounting, business, finance, or a related field; CPA required
  • Proven experience recruiting, building, and managing high-performing finance and/or accounting teams
  • Deep understanding of accounting principles, financial statements, financial markets, economic principles, and banking
  • Experience with insurance agencies, carrier finances, or growth/startup technology companies is a plus
  • MBA or an equivalent level of education a plus, though not required
  • Ability to interact with and influence people at all levels of an organization
  • Excellent analytical skills for budgeting/forecasting combined with strong attention to detail
  • Experience using analytical and reporting tools such as Tableau, NetSuite, Cube, and SQL are a plus, though not required
  • Ability to present complex information and distill financial results into concise commentary for a diverse audience
  • Organized and able to efficiently prioritize, multi-task, and adapt in a fast-paced, often-changing environment, with a focus on strategic and corporate finance ad-hoc analyses
