We are seeking a senior space industry leader to drive business development for a large commercial enterprise's space accounts. This well-connected professional will bring deep domain knowledge and an established executive network across the commercial and government space ecosystem, spanning satellite communications, earth observation, on-orbit services, and ground infrastructure. Using longstanding relationships, this person will initiate executive conversations, shape pursuits, and grow net-new client relationships in priority sectors, with a near-term focus on commercializing offerings and establishing net-new commercial accounts. This role calls for 15 or more years of space industry business development, sales, executive, or senior operator, prime, or agency experience.
This is a contract position involving a large commercial enterprise in the commercial space sector. Candidates with previous consulting or contracting experience are preferred. U.S. Citizenship or Permanent Residency is required. If hired, all work related to this role must be performed within the continental U.S.
Responsibilities
- Lead business development in the space market, blending technical knowledge and business acumen with a focus on space data products.
- Own the commercial space pipeline strategy across accounts; identify whitespace, qualify leads, and build a prioritized opportunity backlog aligned to priority areas.
- Develop and mature client relationships with executives and decision-makers across target space organizations, leveraging personal and professional relationships to open doors.
- Advise on lead-capture shaping and competitive positioning, bringing deep domain knowledge of current and emerging space topics.
- Drive positioning and sales of space-related assets and offerings, including cyber products for ground and satellite operations and space-enabled data services.
- Serve as a market sensor, providing leadership with proactive insight on market shifts, competitive moves, and voice of the customer.
- Represent the organization at industry conferences and events to generate interest and build pipeline.
- Collaborate with team leads, client leads, subject matter experts, and sector leaders to co-create assets and convert relationships into qualified opportunities.
- Where relationships open doors, support government and public-sector pursuits with national security space customers.
Requirements
Must-Have
- Bachelor's degree required.
- Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without the need for employer sponsorship, now or at any time in the future.
- 15+ years in the space industry in business development, sales, executive, or senior operator, prime, or agency roles.
- Deep space-sector domain knowledge across satellite communications, earth observation, on-orbit services, and ground infrastructure.
- A demonstrated, current network of senior relationships across commercial and government space.
- A demonstrated track record of driving net-new business and building executive relationships.
- Willingness and ability to travel 20 to 60 percent, based on clients and events.
- Effective written and verbal communication.
Preferred / Nice-to-Have
- U.S. security clearance eligibility (an active clearance, or additional program read-ins or SCI eligibility, is a plus).
- Prior experience commercializing space technology products or services.
- Relationships across national security space customers, for example U.S. Space Force, Department of Defense, and NASA.
- Experience representing an organization at major industry events.
- Familiarity with cross-functional, team-based selling motions in professional services.
