About the role (your why)

The Senior Workplace Health and Safety Advisor is a key part of the Employment Advisory team. The role is responsible for maintaining and supporting continual WHS improvement programmes and strategies across Datacom, including providing advice, training, consultation, monitoring and governance to support the safety and wellbeing of our people. This is a hands-on role that will require the incumbent to actively engage with the business, conduct ergonomic assessments and coordinate the ordering of appropriate ergonomic equipment where required. The role ensures all relevant WHS legislation, policies and procedures are implemented and effective. You’ll be responsible for supporting all WHS operations for Datacom Australia. This is an exciting and varied role, suitable for someone looking to make a practical difference in a large organisation.

  • Deep knowledge of relevant WHS acts codes of practice and guidelines
  • Knowledge of injury and claims management
  • General experience in WHS management systems
  • Experience in overseeing WHS audits
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Experience in facilitating return to work and Wellbeing programmes
  • Demonstrated experience in identifying, developing and implementing organisational policies and procedures that ensure efficiency and respond to business demands
  • Knowledge of country and company compliance

What you’ll do

  • Supporting and implementing strategic objectives for the functional area, in line with the broader Datacom strategy.
  • Collaborating with leaders and key stakeholders to identify and implement process improvements, needs and priorities.
  • Responsibility for the development of work health and safety policies and programs, that may be required.
  • Advising and instructing on all safety-related topics to mitigate risk (slip hazards, ergonomic set ups).
  • Conducting ergonomic assessments and coordinating the purchase or ordering of ergonomic equipment to support safe and suitable work environments.
  • Assisting with developing and responsible for implementation of growing the awareness of WHS across the business.
  • Conducting risk assessments and audits via a standard methodology, highlighting areas of improvement. Agreeing and implementing a monitoring process.
  • Reviewing existing policies and measures and update accordingly.
  • Develop and deliver work health and safety training for Datacom employees and executives.
  • Recording and investigating incidents to determine causes and handle worker’s compensation claims.
  • Reporting on occurrences and providing statistical information to senior management
  • Participates in WHS related projects such as vendor selection, system implementation, Health, and Safety programs
