Canva

Graphic Design

Before Canva, creating a professional looking design was a complex process - you had to purchase expensive software; learn how to use it; purchase stock photography and fonts for the software; decide on a layout; slice images; receive photos and content via email; design something; upload and email the pdf only to find revisions needed to be made … and then finally be able to prepare your design for web or print. Since launching in August 2013, Canva has been changing the way in which we communicate. Today our design tool has attracted over 60 million happy users across 190 countries, who have collectively created more than 7 billion designs. With an integrated marketplace that has both free and paid stock photography, fonts, illustrations, and thousands of templates; a paid subscription that offers the ability to set up a brand kit so users can save their brand colours, fonts and assets, and ensure consistency across their designs; and a print service that gives our users the ability to produce professional prints in a variety of formats and sizes, delivered straight to their doorstep - Canva is disrupting the way we design.

Job description

Job Description

Join the team redefining how the world experiences design.
Hey, g’day, mabuhay, kia ora, 你好, hallo, vítejte!

Thanks for stopping by. We know job hunting can be a little time consuming and you’re probably keen to find out what’s on offer, so we’ll get straight to the point.

Where and how you can work

Our flagship campus is in Sydney, with a campus in Melbourne, this role is based in Sydney or Melbourne. We trust our Canvanauts to choose the balance that empowers them and their team to achieve their goals, while collaborating closely with global teams across time zones.

What you’d be doing in this role

As Canva scales, change continues to be part of our DNA. But we like to think that’s all part of the fun. This role will give you the flavour of the type of things you’ll be working on when you start — but it will likely evolve.

Photography and video are the lifeblood of what Canva's users create and AI is changing what's possible at every step of that process. As AI Photography & Video Lead, you'll own the creative and strategic direction for how we produce, enrich, and scale world-class photo and video content for over 220 million users.

At the moment, this role is focused on:

  • Defining and leading the creative strategy for Canva's photography and video content - ensuring we're building a library that's diverse, on-trend, and genuinely useful for our users
  • Driving AI-first approaches to content production: using AI to generate, enrich, tag, and scale photo and video assets that would take years to produce by hand
  • Partnering with Content Studio's production teams, engineers, and product managers to build tooling and workflows that unlock content creation at scale
  • Setting quality standards and creative direction across photography and video - commissioning shoots, reviewing assets, and ensuring every piece meets the Canva bar
  • Contributing to Canva's AI Template Marketplace goals, where photo and video content is a critical ingredient in making templates come alive
  • Coaching and leading a team of photographers, videographers, and content producers to do the best work of their careers

You're probably a match if:

  • You're an experienced creative leader in photography and/or video, with a strong point of view on quality and craft
  • You're genuinely excited about how AI is changing content creation - and you already have experience working with AI tools in your workflow
  • You've led creative teams or specialties before, and you know how to set direction and help people grow
  • You understand what it means to operate at platform scale - millions of assets, used across thousands of contexts
  • You can hold creative ambition and operational rigour at the same time - you care about making beautiful things and getting them shipped
  • You work well in a cross-functional environment, partnering closely with engineers, product managers, and operations teams

About the team
