Job description

The Senior Travel Specialist serves as the organization's travel subject matter expert, providing strategic guidance on travel policies, vendor partnerships, and cost-effective travel solutions that balance fiscal responsibility with exceptional traveler service. This role acts as a trusted advisor to employees and patients ensuring compliance with institutional guidelines, regulatory requirements, and best practices.

This role also provides mentorship and guidance to junior staff, promotes knowledge sharing and service excellence, and contributes to departmental goals through continuous improvement initiatives, accurate recordkeeping, and a commitment to traveler satisfaction, operational effectiveness, and organizational values.

This position may be eligible for remote work. However, St. Jude requires all remote employees to:  

β€’ Travel to our Memphis campus for the interview process and/or orientation (if selected). 

β€’ Travel to Memphis to be on-site once per quarter, or as requested based on business needs, if hired.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Consult with customers regarding their travel needs; Assist in planning and booking air, rail, and car rentals, ensuring compliance with institutional travel policies and responsible use of hospital funds.
  • Manage reservations by confirming, monitoring, and adjusting reservations for changes, cancellations, and fare savings.
  • Resolve service issues in collaboration with vendors and escalate when necessary.
  • Negotiate group and convention discounts, coordinate hotel meeting services, and manage travel-related donations, including free travel.
  • Provide travelers with guidance on passports, visas, vaccines, and other requirements while tracking and maintaining records of tickets, vouchers, and donations
  • Perform additional duties to achieve departmental goals, maintain accurate records, and ensure reliable attendance.
  • Perform other duties as assigned to meet the goals and objectives of the department and institution.
  • Maintains regular and predictable attendance.
  • Consistently meet job expectations, adhere to policies, and deliver quality work while applying. St. Jude values and principles. Managers evaluate employee performance throughout the yearβ€”specifically through the spring and fall Check In milestones and the Annual Performance Review. All employees are encouraged to actively participate in these performance management processes.


Minimum Education and/or Training:

  • High school diploma/GED required.
  • Bachelor's degree preferred.


Minimum Experience:

  • Minimum Requirement: 5+ years of experience in full-service corporate travel environment or related areas
  • Experience Exception: Bachelor's with no experience.
  • Experience with tasks that involve managing routine or repetitive activities, high attention to detail and clear communication are critical.
  • Experience with the Sabre reservation system preferred.
  • Knowledge of fare construction, exchange procedures, and airline policies preferred.
  • Demonstrated strong experience working with office technologies, including Microsoft Office (Word/ Excel/PowerPoint, etc.).

Preferred Experience:

  • Healthcare experience
  • Corporate Travel background
  • International travel experience
  • Call center or Omni channel experience
  • Knowledge of Concur helpful
     

Professional Certifications (One of the following certifications from the Global Business Travel Association, preferred):

  • Certified Travel Consultant (CTC)
  • Certified Corporate Travel Professional(CCTE)
  • Global Travel Professional (GTP)

Compensation

In recognition of certain U.S. state and municipal pay transparency laws, St. Jude is including a reasonable estimate of the compensation range for this role. This is an estimate offered in good faith and a specific salary offer takes into account factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including but not limited to skill sets, experience and training, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. It is not typical for an individual to be hired at or near the top of the salary range and compensation decisions are dependent on the facts and circumstances of each case. A reasonable estimate of the current salary range is $24.00 - $42.00 per hour for the role of Senior Travel Specialist.
