Job Description:

The objective of the Retail Operations team is to put stores and customers at the heart of everything we do, delivering exceptional retail experiences while achieving sustainable safety, and financial performance. Key to this is:

The Retail Business Manager is responsible for delivering the ‘wow’ retail customer experience across a network of 10-15 bp sites. This is achieved through leading a large and complementary team with purpose, trust, compassion, authenticity, and care, while delivering safety, financial and operational performance targets aligned with bp's global and local.

The role requires close collaboration with support teams to implement retail priorities, drive continuous improvement, and adapt to evolving customer and business needs.


Key Accountabilities

  • Empower teams to achieve zero harm through curious, collaborative, and proactive ways of working.

  • Ensure effective execution of bp processes, procedures, and initiatives that strengthen the safety culture across the territory.

  • Improve key safety indicators through strong risk management, coaching and role modelling safe behaviours.

  • Drive compliance and excellence and ensuring safety remains the number one priority.

  • Inspire store teams to deliver outstanding performance and exceptional customer experiences.

  • Develop an environment where employees feel empowered to speak up and supply ideas.

  • Implement retail strategy and customer offer in partnership with support teams.

  • Provide engaging and authentic leadership to approximately 150 employees, including mentoring and developing Store Managers and their teams.

  • Drive structured performance management and continuous improvement initiatives to support business transformation.

  • Lead territory performance against agreed sales, cost and operational indicators.

  • Develop teams to improve business performance and customer experience.

  • Maintain a front-line focus on retail site performance across customer experience, people, culture, safety and financial outcomes.

  • Own and optimise cluster performance by making decisions that drive commercial success.

  • Deliver annual and monthly plans for Convenience Store and Food sales by identifying and implementing growth opportunities.

  • Support fuel volume delivery through collaboration with Retail Pricing and stakeholders.

  • Maintain accountability for cost management, controls and overall profitability.

  • Conduct store performance reviews.

  • Drive improvements in customer metrics, including Talk2BP, Net Promoter Score (NPS) and Customer Satisfaction (CSAT).

  • Support and deliver projects, including partnership rollouts, innovation initiatives and strategic business programs.


About You

Educational Background

  • Qualification in Marketing, Business, Customer Experience or a related field is desirable but not crucial.

  • Equivalent experience in retail, customer-facing or operational leadership environments will also be considered.


Professional Track Record

  • Demonstrated leadership experience characterised by purpose, authenticity and care.

  • Strong background in retail operations, ideally across multiple industries and business environments.

  • Experience working within digitally enabled, commercially and future-oriented organisations.

  • Exposure to food and coffee operations is advantageous.

Additional Information

  • Ability to support a 24/7 retail operation, including participation in on-call responsibilities.

  • Willingness and ability to travel regularly across the territory, including occasional overnight travel.
