The role

We are seeking an experienced Water Infrastructure professional to lead and grow our NSW Water Infrastructure business.
As Manager – Water Infrastructure, Sydney you will be responsible for driving business growth, strengthening client relationships, leading a high-performing team, and overseeing the successful delivery of a diverse portfolio of water infrastructure projects.

This is an excellent opportunity for an established leader or senior water professional looking to take the next step into a broader management and business leadership role.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the NSW/ACT Water Infrastructure business, focusing on sustainable growth and market development.
  • Identify, secure and deliver water infrastructure projects across the region.
  • Build and maintain strong client relationships to generate repeat business and new opportunities.
  • Manage team performance, utilisation, resourcing and professional development.
  • Oversee the commercial performance of the business, including forecasting, budgeting and profitability.
  • Provide project leadership, strategic oversight and technical review on key projects.
  • Foster a collaborative and high-performing team culture aligned with SMEC's values.

About You


You will be a commercially minded and client-focused leader with a strong track record in the water sector and experience delivering projects within a consulting environment.

You will bring:

  • Degree qualification in Engineering or a related discipline.
  • 10+ years' experience within the water infrastructure sector.
  • Experience leading technical teams and managing project delivery.
  • Strong business development and client relationship management skills with established business networks 
  • Demonstrated ability to identify and convert opportunities into profitable work.
  • Experience preparing successful proposals, scopes and budgets.
  • Excellent commercial, stakeholder management and communication skills.
